Cryptozoology Museum Wins Annual Readers’ Choice Award!

Posted by: Loren Coleman on June 3rd, 2012

During May, we asked for your cooperation in voting for the International Cryptozoology Museum during a people’s choice survey. We won. You and the museum made this possible.

The results are in. They were announced and published in the June 3, 2012 edition of the Maine Sunday Telegram.

The International Cryptozoology Museum was voted the “Best Place for Family Entertainment” in the Portland Press Herald/Maine Sunday Telegram’s 26th Annual Readers’ Choice Awards.

Here’s our description in the Maine Sunday Telegram, with two just published new photographs there:

BEST PLACE FOR FAMILY ENTERTAINMENT

International Cryptozoology Museum

11 Avon St., Portland

The world’s only cryptozoology museum is right in downtown Portland. Learn about the search for Bigfoot and other beasts that may or may not exist.

Bigfoot stands quietly as Hannah Taube and Robert Baird, visitors from Boston, enjoy the Cryptozoology Museum at 11 Avon Street in Portland. The Cryptozoology Museum won the award for Family Fun in the Reader’s Choice Awards. “They have nothing like this in Boston,” remarked Baird. Gordon Chibroski / Staff Photographer.

We are a hidden treasure in our own town. More people seem to know about us, for example, in Germany, England, Boston, New York City and Los Angeles, than in Maine.

Awards like this assist us getting the word out, and we appreciate your support.

People visit beautiful Portland; some get educated at the museum; others have fun.

People from around the world voted for the International Cryptozoology Museum, and you helped us achieve being recognized as the “Best Place for Family Entertainment.” Thank you.

Loren Coleman About Loren Coleman
Loren Coleman is one of the world’s leading cryptozoologists, some say “the” leading living cryptozoologist. Certainly, he is acknowledged as the current living American researcher and writer who has most popularized cryptozoology in the late 20th and early 21st centuries. Starting his fieldwork and investigations in 1960, after traveling and trekking extensively in pursuit of cryptozoological mysteries, Coleman began writing to share his experiences in 1969. An honorary member of Ivan T. Sanderson’s Society for the Investigation of the Unexplained in the 1970s, Coleman has been bestowed with similar honorary memberships of the North Idaho College Cryptozoology Club in 1983, and in subsequent years, that of the British Columbia Scientific Cryptozoology Club, CryptoSafari International, and other international organizations. He was also a Life Member and Benefactor of the International Society of Cryptozoology (now-defunct). Loren Coleman’s daily blog, as a member of the Cryptomundo Team, served as an ongoing avenue of communication for the ever-growing body of cryptozoo news from 2005 through 2013. He returned as an infrequent contributor beginning Halloween week of 2015. Coleman is the founder in 2003, and current director of the International Cryptozoology Museum in Portland, Maine.

  1. marcodufour responds:

Well done Loren and everyone associated with the museum, keep up the great work.

  2. Troodon56 responds:

Yes! It feels good knowing that my vote counted! 🙂 Hopefully, this will help more people to recognize that cryptozoology is a valid science, that is worthy of more recognition. More people could then donate more money, to our cause. Then, hopefully, cryptozoology will be recognized by the mainstream scientific community, and a major discovery will happen, somewhere! Once again, this is awesome news! :-D!

  3. GuRuZombi responds:

    Congratulations!!!!
