Nessie’s Family Revealed

“The Loch Ness monster is married and has quite a family, Sir David Hunter-Blair, abbot of a monastery on the shores of Scotland’s famous lake, says. Sir David, who claims to have seen the monster several times and to have made a report to the Pope about it, differed with persons who believe the creature is the last survivor of his line. The abbot, who is 83 but extremely alert, told of sitting on the monastery’s boathouse and watching the monster play around in the lakeā€”for 35 minutes.”

No, the above words do not amount to a joke, although you might be forgiven for thinking they do! Rather, they are the opening lines to a May 7, 1937 newspaper article that Glasgow Boy is highlighting at his Loch Ness Mystery blog. Surprisingly, the article is not from a Scottish newspaper, but from the Wisconsin-based Milwaukee Journal!

And here’s the full story in all its weird glory…

  1. corrick responds:

Total b.s. There is no connection between Sir David Hunter-Blair and Loch Ness at all.

  2. silverity responds:

Blair was Abbot of the Abbey around the time of the first world war.

  3. marcodufour responds:

I met Father Gregory who was an eyewitness from there, a very tall guy, i thought he should have played basketball for the Nessie Allstars.

  4. corrick responds:

When you are wrong, you are wrong. My apologies.

My fast and dirty check on Sir David Hunter-Blair only went as far as a pretty lengthy article on his life on wikipedia. Loch Ness is not mentioned. But indeed, he was the Abbot at Loch Ness from 1912 to 1917. Mea culpa.

  5. wuffing responds:

corrick wrote “Total b.s.” and then “But indeed, he was the Abbot at Loch Ness from 1912 to 1917”, so that allows to recalculate the value to just 97% b.s.

Sorry. Comments have been closed.
