Bigfoot joins BCGEU’s ‘Save BC Parks’ campaign
VANCOUVER, June 28, 2012 /CNW/ – The B.C. Government and Service Employees’ Union has enlisted the help of Bigfoot to kick off their summer campaign to increase funding to B.C.’s parks system.
Bigfoot and Ranger Dave star as characters in an online video – part of an internet and print-based campaign that highlights the impact of B.C. parks cuts and urges people to ask the B.C. government to restore parks funding.
The campaign focuses on B.C. park rangers as an endangered species, with only 10 full-time rangers left to patrol 1000 parks and protected areas, covering more than 32 million acres province-wide.
Q: How many full-time park rangers do you think there are to serve the 1000 parks and protected areas – more than 32 million acres of land? A: 10 only.
Since 2001, the BC government has cut the number of full-time park rangers by 62 per cent. The number of full-time-equivalent seasonal park ranger positions has seen a 60 per cent cut. A $10 million cut to parks budgets has meant vehicles, gasoline and travel budgets to patrol our parks have been dramatically reduced.
Help send a message to the BC government, to restore parks funding to 2000 levels. Visit www.saveBCparks.ca for more information.
The sasquatch in the Ranger Danger video isn’t just another pretty face. He is a multi-talented simian with a unique viewpoint on modern technology and culture. Watch these short outtakes from the video shoot.
