On This Date: California Fishermen spot Sea Monster

The San Bernardino Sun reports that on this date, Dec. 4, in 1954, two fisherman reported seeing a sea monster off the coast of La Jolla, CA.

Phil Parker, an aircraft worker, and Grant King, an architect, claimed the sea monster had a head and shoulders like a bull gorilla and no face.

The two said they watched the creature for 25 minutes from a distance of about 50 feet while they were fishing from a small boat.

"It wasn’t like a whale and it wasn’t a sea lion," Parker said. "And it sure didn’t look like a snake."

Carl Hubbs of the Scripps Institute of Oceanography said he had no idea of what the two may have seen while out in the ocean.

Have any of our West Coast readers seen this creature, or any other sea serpent or sea monster while driving the Pacific Coast Highway? If so, report it here in the comments in this blog.
