Bigfoot at the Merrill

MITW

Saturday, January 12, 2008, the world premiere showing of the new indie film, Monster in the Woods will occur at Merrill Auditorium in Portland, Maine.

Built in 1912 to replace two former halls both destroyed by fire, the (Portland, Maine) City Hall Auditorium was a classic example of colonial style, boasting porticos and columns, a deep court and large wings. The hall was completely renovated beginning in January 1996, and today, the re-named Merrill Auditorium is a 1900 seat performing arts facility, located in the remarkable setting of downtown Portland, on the beautiful coast of Maine.

The plot of Monster in the Woods centers on two cryptozoologists (played by Jana Regan and Seth Holbrook) who go looking into some Sasquatch sightings in the Maine forests and have to contend with the local sheriff, assorted suspicious (and gun-toting) residents and a rival researcher in their quest to track down the man-beast. There is a cameo appearance by Loren Coleman, cryptozoologist and Bigfoot researcher, in the film.

The motion picture will be shown from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, after a brief introduction by indie filmmaker Andy Davis of Emptyhouse Film, and some opening remarks about Bigfoot by Coleman.

Coleman, Davis, and others will be at the “Film Fair” held in the lobby from 4:30-6:00 pm, before the showing of Monster in the Woods, to sell and autograph books and other Bigfoot, Yeti, and film-related items.

Loren Coleman About Loren Coleman
Loren Coleman is one of the world’s leading cryptozoologists, some say “the” leading living cryptozoologist. Certainly, he is acknowledged as the current living American researcher and writer who has most popularized cryptozoology in the late 20th and early 21st centuries. Starting his fieldwork and investigations in 1960, after traveling and trekking extensively in pursuit of cryptozoological mysteries, Coleman began writing to share his experiences in 1969. An honorary member of Ivan T. Sanderson’s Society for the Investigation of the Unexplained in the 1970s, Coleman has been bestowed with similar honorary memberships of the North Idaho College Cryptozoology Club in 1983, and in subsequent years, that of the British Columbia Scientific Cryptozoology Club, CryptoSafari International, and other international organizations. He was also a Life Member and Benefactor of the International Society of Cryptozoology (now-defunct). Loren Coleman’s daily blog, as a member of the Cryptomundo Team, served as an ongoing avenue of communication for the ever-growing body of cryptozoo news from 2005 through 2013. He returned as an infrequent contributor beginning Halloween week of 2015. Coleman is the founder in 2003, and current director of the International Cryptozoology Museum in Portland, Maine.
