Champ Echolocation Lake Champlain 2014

After a week long investigation on Lake Champlain with an array of equipment (underwater cameras, hydrophone and sonar) Champ Search (Katy Elizabeth & Dennis Jay Hall) scoured the deep dark waters of Lake Champlain in search of Champ. On July 31 at 7:45 PM near Scotch Bonnet, Echolocation was recorded. This is the first time since 2003 that Echolocation has been recorded in Lake Champlain which indicates these animals are continuing to thrive. It is believed that these animals use this technique to find food, navigate the lake and perhaps it is a form of communication to other animals in the area. Since the visibility is poor in some areas, they could not just be using sight alone to find food. They also had a sighting of two Champ animals on the New York side of the lake through binoculars and Underwater footage was captured of the diverse ecology of the lake (where these animals frequently feed). Video of the investigation will be available to view shortly.
