Argentinean Lake Monster Doc
Posted by: John Kirk on January 25th, 2007
A documentary team from the U.S. is in Bariloche, Argentina to make a documentary about Nahuelito, the cryptid of Lago Nahuel-Huapi. The Mandt Brothers Productions crew is led by Naomi Grossman and according to Argentine newspapers, they hope to interview witnesses and talk to local scientists about the possibility of the creature’s existence.
This follows a visit last year by a Japanese TV crew who came to the area for a week to document the animal’s existence right from the first sightings by the early Mapuche Indians.
Last year two supposed photos of Nahuelito were published in the El Cordillerano newspaper after an anonymous photographer dropped them off at the front deck. There were supposed to be three photos, but I have only been able to locate two of them. Why was the third not published?
See below, the two photographs.
The two creature in the photos – which have been featured here at Cryptomundo – are almost identical to ones believed to have been manufactured by the late Frank Searle during his sojourn at Loch Ness. See photo below.
Now two more photos, taken by a medical student have arisen and we will post them here on Cryptomundo shortly. My early verdict of them is they are as dubious as the last two.
See Loren’s post entitled Breaking News: Nahuelito Photographed for additional background on the two photos above.

About John Kirk
One of the founders of the BCSCC, John Kirk has enjoyed a varied and exciting career path. Both a print and broadcast journalist, John Kirk has in recent years been at the forefront of much of the BCSCC’s expeditions, investigations and publishing. John has been particularly interested in the phenomenon of unknown aquatic cryptids around the world and is the author of In the Domain of the Lake Monsters (Key Porter Books, 1998).
In addition to his interest in freshwater cryptids, John has been keenly interested in investigating the possible existence of sasquatch and other bipedal hominids of the world, and in particular, the Yeren of China. John is also chairman of the Crypto Safari organization, which specializes in sending teams of investigators to remote parts of the world to search for animals as yet unidentified by science. John travelled with a Crypto Safari team to Cameroon and northern Republic of Congo to interview witnesses among the Baka pygmies and Bantu bushmen who have sighted a large unknown animal that bears more than a superficial resemblance to a dinosaur.
Since 1996, John Kirk has been editor and publisher of the BCSCC Quarterly which is the flagship publication of the BCSCC. In demand at conferences, seminars, lectures and on television and radio programs, John has spoken all over North America and has appeared in programs on NBC, ABC, CBS, PBS, TLC, Discovery, CBC, CTV and the BBC.
In his personal life John spends much time studying the histories of Scottish Clans and is himself the president of the Clan Kirk Society. John is also an avid soccer enthusiast and player.
They all look like fake pictures to me, but that doesn’t make the creature completely nonexistent. We’ll see!
The angle of the photos doesn’t seem right to me. They are angled from above, so were they taken from a plane or a hill? Or was it a guy standing over a toy? Then look at the size of the waves and ripples compared to probable size of the creature and distance from it. Don’t they seem off? In the bottom pic you can even make out rocks on the bottom, which would make them pretty gigantic boulders to be seen from so far away and in comparison to a large creature. So are the maybe pebbles in half a foot of water? I’d say it looks very likely. The seemingly glowing red eye on the one in the top pic raises my hoax-a-meter as well.
