PETA Protest Near Cryptozoology Museum ~ UPDATED With Photos
Posted by: Loren Coleman on March 10th, 2010
Just in from the photo op right down the street:
Reportedly, they may disrobe further, closer to 1:00 pm, but I had cryptozoology to get back to at the museum!
++++
Famed writer Joe Hill, who is Stephen King’s son, dropped by the International Cryptozoology Museum, yesterday. We are closed on Mondays-Tuesdays, and hopefully, he’ll stop by again for a personalized tour. He reportedly enjoyed the Bigfoot outfront, from his twit last night. š
I want to mention a bit of news (and possible traffic congestion?) regarding anyone’s visit to the International Cryptozoology Museum on Wednesday, March 10th. If you are near the museum today, between 11 am and one, please be aware that PETA will be conducting a demonstration not too far from the ICM, at the corner of Congress St. & High St., at high noon to one pm. (Forecast today: Sunny, 50 degrees, breezy, with no meatballs, please.)
Reportedly, PETA members will be protesting by being in a bed in “nothing more than their underwear.” From past events, sometimes it turns out to be less than underwear.
With all of yesterday’s publicity about the Bigfoot in Leeds centered on the ICM, and now today’s PETA protesters, media coverage and onlookers, this could start out as an exciting beginning for March 10th!
The protest has nothing to do with the ICM’s Bigfoot! Being a vegan for some two decades myself, I do not approve of shooting, harming or eating Bigfoot ~ or wearing furs, either!
However, if any cryptids are harmed during the protest, I’ll post the photos immediately!!Ā
About Loren Coleman
Loren Coleman is one of the worldās leading cryptozoologists, some say ātheā leading living cryptozoologist. Certainly, he is acknowledged as the current living American researcher and writer who has most popularized cryptozoology in the late 20th and early 21st centuries.
Starting his fieldwork and investigations in 1960, after traveling and trekking extensively in pursuit of cryptozoological mysteries, Coleman began writing to share his experiences in 1969. An honorary member of Ivan T. Sandersonās Society for the Investigation of the Unexplained in the 1970s, Coleman has been bestowed with similar honorary memberships of the North Idaho College Cryptozoology Club in 1983, and in subsequent years, that of the British Columbia Scientific Cryptozoology Club, CryptoSafari International, and other international organizations. He was also a Life Member and Benefactor of the International Society of Cryptozoology (now-defunct).
Loren Colemanās daily blog, as a member of the Cryptomundo Team, served as an ongoing avenue of communication for the ever-growing body of cryptozoo news from 2005 through 2013. He returned as an infrequent contributor beginning Halloween week of 2015.
Coleman is the founder in 2003, and current director of the International Cryptozoology Museum in Portland, Maine.
Semi nude women and a Museum of Crptozoology? Where do i sign? In all seriousness, it is a worthy cause. Personally I believe in the ethical treatment of animals and lend my support to PETA as i’ve been a vegan on and off myself for some years now( I just can’t stay away from cheese) . Kudos to you Loren for practicing what you preach and please, more photos!
“However, if any cryptids are harmed during the protest, Iāll post the photos immediately!!”
Take photos anyway!
I had to reregister in order to post! I guess it’s been a loooong time, but I just couldn’t let this slide past. PETA is more interested in collecting $$ than helping animals or even treating them well. http://www.petakillsanimals.com
i agree with Greybeard, they kill about 90% of animals they take in, instead of sending them to nearby shelters that actually could take care of them.
Personally, i too believe in treating animals right, but we are still higher on the food chain.
It’s politics when it comes to PETA really. And when it comes to Religion & State….I choose the Paranormal!! š
Peace!
Please tell me it is warm up there. Otherwise you will have smurfs protesting down the street.
hey loren geeze doesnt peta have anything to do with their time than bugging you & the town etc oh well maybe theyll get arrested or something hehhe.. to be continued
I agree with most of the above posters. PETA kills 90% of the animals they take in and oppose Animal Experimentation even if it is STRICTLY for Medical Purposes and the Animals are treated humanely. Their actions also borders on the terroristic. I’m into animals but I’m not going to potentially take human life for them, either.
“Personally, i too believe in treating animals right, but we are still higher on the food chain.”
My sentiments exactly…Thanks for the insight, CRAPPLE. I know many will disagree with that, and that’s OK. I’m personally an unrepentant Omnivore who eats Red Meat at least once a week. “Keeps me healthy,” as Marlene Dietrich said about Smoking. LOL. š
Don’t wear Fur but would love to own one one day. I know, I know, that makes me the “Devil,” but my take on it is, if the anmals are raised strictly for that purpose and are treated Humanely during their lifetimes, I have no problem with that. Again, many will disagree with me, but that’s my story and I’m sticking to it.
Didn’t know you were a Vegan, Loren. Interesting.
Thanks for the update.
Cryptidsrus, the problem with fur is that the animals are often not treated humanely. It’s the same problem as with meat and leather. They are often abused or kept in unacceptable situations. Some furs are even made from wild trapped animals that have to struggle in awful and painful traps before they are killed.
I am no PETA member (I disagree with many of their campaigns, especially their support of breed specific legislation) but I still think that the fur, meat, and leather industries are cruel and unacceptable at times. Therefore, I would never purchase or support the purchase of fur (I also don’t eat meat or wear leather, but I don’t try and persuade others to do the same).
Loren, that’s so cool that you are vegan! I had no idea!
Wait, wait, wait…

You are REALLY dedicated to the ICM, Loren!!! LOL! š
GOD BLESS AMERICA!
This event just proves the PETA Principle;
Five 2’s do not equal one 10.
While I 100% disagree with the organization and their message…I 100% will fight for their right to voice their opinion…especially in their current garb.
