2012 Ogopogo Sighting

Posted by: John Kirk on December 20th, 2013

Well it seems that there was a sighting of Ogopogo last year after all. There were no published reports, but realtor Joy Szombor saw the creature display three humps. Her brief interview can be seen here:

John Kirk About John Kirk
One of the founders of the BCSCC, John Kirk has enjoyed a varied and exciting career path. Both a print and broadcast journalist, John Kirk has in recent years been at the forefront of much of the BCSCC’s expeditions, investigations and publishing. John has been particularly interested in the phenomenon of unknown aquatic cryptids around the world and is the author of In the Domain of the Lake Monsters (Key Porter Books, 1998). In addition to his interest in freshwater cryptids, John has been keenly interested in investigating the possible existence of sasquatch and other bipedal hominids of the world, and in particular, the Yeren of China. John is also chairman of the Crypto Safari organization, which specializes in sending teams of investigators to remote parts of the world to search for animals as yet unidentified by science. John travelled with a Crypto Safari team to Cameroon and northern Republic of Congo to interview witnesses among the Baka pygmies and Bantu bushmen who have sighted a large unknown animal that bears more than a superficial resemblance to a dinosaur. Since 1996, John Kirk has been editor and publisher of the BCSCC Quarterly which is the flagship publication of the BCSCC. In demand at conferences, seminars, lectures and on television and radio programs, John has spoken all over North America and has appeared in programs on NBC, ABC, CBS, PBS, TLC, Discovery, CBC, CTV and the BBC. 1. Peter Von Berg responds:

    Very credible witness.

  2. Saruotoko85 responds:

Seems like she had a few pints before this interview…

  3. John Kirk responds:

If you can’t come on this forum with constructive comments then don’t come at all. What a mean-spirited, rude and insulting comment. She looks nothing of the sort. As Peter Von Berg said, she’s a very credible SOBER witness.

    Grow up.

  4. PhotoExpert responds:

John Kirk– Hey! I read the same post you did by Peter Von Berg and I took it at face value. I think he was stating that she actually is a very credible witness. I could be wrong but I don’t think he was trying to be sarcastic. I have seen him post before and his posts are pretty much straightforward. Maybe you know that poster better than I do, but you may have jumped the gun on that one. Better to save the defensive posture and ammunition until a definitive case of sarcasm gets posted.

Anyway, I find her credible for a couple of reasons. She definitely kept the realtor face during the video. When she was talking about the nearby bird sanctuary and great view of the lake, I almost wanted to move there. But because of that description, stating the facts from her frame of reference without embellishment, she seemed very credible to me. And because she derives her living from that area, her reputation is at stake. I don’t think she would risk that by making up stories of a lake monster. I believe her for those reasons.

  5. Craig Woolheater responds:

    PhotoExpert,

John was referencing a comment that was deleted made by a new registrant here at Cryptomundo.

Two out of four comments made by him/her were insinuating that cryptid eyewitnesses were drunk.

It’s apparently a pattern with them, and as such, their comments won’t see much airtime here at Cryptomundo.

Perhaps I should reinstate them as a memorial to their jackassery…?

    Craig

  6. Peter Von Berg responds:

Oh yes, I meant what I said. She seems like a very nice intelligent woman and I find what she said to be very believable.

  7. John Kirk responds:

Craig is correct. The twerp who abused Ms. Szombor was the object of wrath, not the erstwhile Peter Von Berg who makes well-thought out observations which are a pleasure to read.

I am the sworn enemy of – as Craig puts it – jackassery and will call anyone out here when I see it

  8. William responds:

I wish she would have given a bit more detail, as in the color of the thing, how long she observed it and the approximate size.

  9. Peter Von Berg responds:

Thank you for your kind words Mr. Kirk.

  10. sasquatch responds:

    I like the term “jackassery”.
She seems sincere to me as well…
More research needs to be done up there at Okanangan Lake.

  11. Goodfoot responds:

    PhotoExpert:

I quite agree – she never leaves her realtor persona; perhaps she’s “in character” all the time. But I find her a bubbly, upbeat, but quite sober and sincere witness.

The binoculars she mentions are NOT “self-focusing”, of course. That’s impossible. What they are, is “eye-focusing”, where your eyes do the work. They only work perfectly if your vision is perfect, but they’re quite useful, because focus is nearly instantaneous. I have had a pair by Simmons for many years.

  12. PhotoExpert responds:

Craig–LOL Yes, maybe just delete the content of the comment. Leave their screen name, and post. “Comment deleted by Site Administrator for jackassery.” That way, we know that John was referring to that person. It looked as if Peter posted and John was responding to him. You know me, I always try to moderate an escalating situation before it gets out of hand.

John Kirk–Yes, I see what happened now, after Craig’s explanation. But yes, call them out. When posters say absurd things here or attack another poster for no reason, I have been known to call them out too. Keep on keepin’ on!

Goodfoot–Yep, she kept her realtor face. You noticed that too? And yes on the binocular thing. I thought I knew what she meant but you never know with today’s ever increasing technology. Merry Christmas my friend!

  13. Goodfoot responds:

    You too, PhotoExpert.

Sorry. Comments have been closed.
