Update: Python Swallows a Pregnant Sheep
Posted by: Craig Woolheater on September 10th, 2006
Cryptomundo reader Tyche scanned the article out of The New Paper of Singapore giving some additional information regarding this case.
As mentioned in the original post, the snake was captured by local firemen.
After it was brought back to the police station, the python threw up the carcass in a bid to make a quick getaway. But it was too late, as it had already been tied down by the officers.

Gross. What are they going to do with the Python?
Nice specimen. I sure hope they don’t go do anything rash like euthanize it. Poor thing’s been through enough.
So what now a snake can not eat?? They will probably kill it now?? Just does not make any sense.
I think the snake’s suffered enough with a nearly busted gut. Just put it in a zoo somewhere I say.
How cruel can they possibly be? It also looks more like the sheep was strangled (squeezing below the food in the body of the snake) out, not ‘thrown up’. It was all just a circus for the individuals involved and I doubt that this snake is doing well after all of this stress, if it’s now doing anything at all.
ahhhh, pity the poor snake.
I hope that they released the snake in a remote, undisclosed area, after taking appropriate biological samples. Furthermore I would hope that they snake was fitted with an internal transmitter so that its movements can be tracked. Pythons are threatened across their entire range, and it would be a shame to kill one.
Reticulated pythons tend to be more ggressive than most other pythons, and they can be very dangerous to handle. I hope, if the snake could not be released back into the wild, that a conservation-oriented zoo or reptile breeder has given it sanctuary.
One word:
Boots!
Yeah, it’s a shame to see a nice looking retic like that beaten up. News Flash–Big snakes can eat big things! Oh well, not likely that snake would be released, I’d suspect problems from stress anyway.. however I’d almost guarantee it was butchered and eaten. In that part of the world everything is on the(human) menu.

as cruel as all this may seem, remember one thing: no matter where people are living or how “in tune” with nature they might be, you really don’t want a snake able to swallow a sheep whole living anywhere around you. We also need to look at this in a scientific/curious manner. We cannot concern ourselves with the snake, but with what it did. Pythons, we are taught, aren’t suppose to be able to do that. Doesn’t mean that they won’t try. Let’s think of something else here, that was a “normal” sized python. There have been talk of absolutely huge anacondas that swallow humans whole, though we seem to sour their stomachs.
I love snakes and find them fasinating This was a beauty , but I’m almost willing to bet it has become dinner for many by now. It’s a shame but we can’t change the world view of wildlife . When its a choice between a full belly or a snake ,we know who will win.
