Little Eagle Bigfoot
Posted by: Loren Coleman on June 24th, 2009
One of the most concentrated series of sightings of a non-Pacific Northwest Bigfoot-type creature seen on a Native American reservation took place in South Dakota.
Let us revisit this group of accounts, today, while I’m still out-in-the-field. I’m blogging remotely, when not stuck in a bog somewhere.
Janet and Colin Bord looked at these earlier 1977 Bigfoot sightings, which occurred among the Sioux at Little Eagle, South Dakota.
Over the space of a few months, 28 sightings of Bigfoot were reported, and the Bords reference the accounts in their 2006 edition of Bigfoot Casebook Updated. They looked to the work of Mark A. Hall, noted in his “Contemporary Stories of Taku-He‚ or Bigfoot‚ in South Dakota as Drawn from Newspaper Accounts,” The Minnesota Archaeologist, 37(2): 63-78 (May 1978), and his The Yeti, Bigfoot & True Giants, to organize their data in a helpful timeline.

The series gives much food for thought about the existence of Sasquatch in various locations in North America, and the possible role of migration in Bigfoot movement and appearances.
Your assistance is still important in supporting the museum. Please…
Thank You.
About Loren Coleman
Loren Coleman is one of the world’s leading cryptozoologists, some say “the” leading living cryptozoologist. Certainly, he is acknowledged as the current living American researcher and writer who has most popularized cryptozoology in the late 20th and early 21st centuries.
Starting his fieldwork and investigations in 1960, after traveling and trekking extensively in pursuit of cryptozoological mysteries, Coleman began writing to share his experiences in 1969. An honorary member of Ivan T. Sanderson’s Society for the Investigation of the Unexplained in the 1970s, Coleman has been bestowed with similar honorary memberships of the North Idaho College Cryptozoology Club in 1983, and in subsequent years, that of the British Columbia Scientific Cryptozoology Club, CryptoSafari International, and other international organizations. He was also a Life Member and Benefactor of the International Society of Cryptozoology (now-defunct).
Loren Coleman’s daily blog, as a member of the Cryptomundo Team, served as an ongoing avenue of communication for the ever-growing body of cryptozoo news from 2005 through 2013. He returned as an infrequent contributor beginning Halloween week of 2015.
Coleman is the founder in 2003, and current director of the International Cryptozoology Museum in Portland, Maine.
Taku-he to the Souix, and to my family ( Seneca) they are called the “Stone Giants”. We as some of the first peoples of North America, have known and lived amongst these creatures since the dawn of time. We have always known that they have existed. In some Native American cultures the sighting of these creatures varies from good luck to bad luck. Personally, I think it is a blessing and an affirmation that there is something out there, and please pardon the pun, “Bigger than us”.
I have had a couple of encounters with these creatures, some very close. They have never acted with aggression, just inquisitiveness and wonder. These creatures have just as much right to live in peace and roam where they may, just as much as we do.
I have on more than one occasion sat with the counsel elders, and have discussed them openly and without reservation. The stories go back for generations and centuries in my tribe. It is considered a blessing and one of good fortune to those who have had encounters with them.
I hope that the ones that have had their own personal encounters with them, what ever they may be, consider themselves blessed and now have the peace of mind that they are just some of the few whom these creatures have made themselves known to.
They are a wonder to behold and a gift from the creator. I personally would protect these creatures with my life, and I think that they know this. They can sense harm and ill intent in people, and that is what has kept them safe and hidden from harm for all these centuries.
Let’s keep it this way.
Thank you Loren.
Is this the same area with multiple encounters a couple years ago?
What really is sad about the whole little eagle incident is that the plaster casts that were made have turned to dust. Another interesting thing about the same time reports of four foot tall hairy creatures were reported near Rauville sd along railroad tracks in the area.
I’m following up on an incident that happen a while back where four ft tall hairy creatures were reported to have tapped on someones patio window.
I know I’m coming in a little late here, but I just wanted to thank Wolves-Talon for sharing his insights and experiences.
I agree. Great post.
