The Summer of Cryptids, 2008

The following video, notice of which was sent along by a Cryptomundo reader, nicely celebrates many images from this remarkable summer.
About Loren Coleman
Loren Coleman is one of the world’s leading cryptozoologists, some say “the” leading living cryptozoologist. Certainly, he is acknowledged as the current living American researcher and writer who has most popularized cryptozoology in the late 20th and early 21st centuries.
Starting his fieldwork and investigations in 1960, after traveling and trekking extensively in pursuit of cryptozoological mysteries, Coleman began writing to share his experiences in 1969. An honorary member of Ivan T. Sanderson’s Society for the Investigation of the Unexplained in the 1970s, Coleman has been bestowed with similar honorary memberships of the North Idaho College Cryptozoology Club in 1983, and in subsequent years, that of the British Columbia Scientific Cryptozoology Club, CryptoSafari International, and other international organizations. He was also a Life Member and Benefactor of the International Society of Cryptozoology (now-defunct).
Loren Coleman’s daily blog, as a member of the Cryptomundo Team, served as an ongoing avenue of communication for the ever-growing body of cryptozoo news from 2005 through 2013. He returned as an infrequent contributor beginning Halloween week of 2015.
Coleman is the founder in 2003, and current director of the International Cryptozoology Museum in Portland, Maine.
It’s ridiculous in this day and age of high quality, megapixel cameras that the best picture we have of the corpse are what’s offered here. I’d chalk it up to lack of experience, except for the fact these guys obviously understand something about pictures or video based on their YouTube shots.
Remember, this thing, if real is DEAD. We’re not talking about some elusive beast on the move or a UFO flashing across the sky. If this is the real deal we should be getting at least five to seven, clear, multi-angled and distanced, no-doubt-about-it pictures as an enticement before the carcass is displayed to the world. THAT’S how to create a media frenzy worthy of such a discovery – and one that would still generate millions in revenue if that’s what they are after. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist or even a redneck to figure that out. It’s obvious the only reason they didn’t take such photos is because it would reveal the true nature of what’s in the freezer: a fake. To me it answers many of the other questions that so far remain unanswered that have nothing to do with the photos.
I find it interesting out of over a hundred posts here that few ask about the logistics of the supposed discovery. Thanks Flash442 for finally posing the a question of many more that should be asked before even considering the validity of the grainy photos. How the hell DID these two guys move such a carcass out of the deep woods if it is indeed as big as they say it is? Mums the word. Granted it might not be the focal point of such a discovery but if one is concerned about validity – that’s the direction you go. But if you want to create media hype? Textbook case here I think.
Here’s another: To my recollection one of the first things that Bigfoot observers notice is the stench of the creature. Now, if Bigfoot smells so awful alive can you imagine the putrid odor from a dead one? Yet, Biscardi or his buds makes no mention whatsoever of this overpowering stench in the Fox interview or anywhere else. Busted.
Watching the videos of the pair on YouTube certainly doesn’t lend much credibility to the “discovery.” The arrogance displayed regarding their Bigfoot business and the lack of respect for tenured researchers in the field is appalling. What’s the focus here? Slapping those who threatened their families with more threats? Nice. While some may not agree 100% with the Coleman and Meldrum analysis of Bigfoot – I think anyone who has followed the field for a significant period of time wouldn’t have the audacity to suggest that the research from these two gentlemen is completely worthless.
Overall, I think this is an excellent exercise for the field. It will teach those of us who jump too quickly on the Real McCoy bandwagon to step back and rethink with a little more objectivity and examine the evidence that is or isn’t presented front and center. Then again, those of us who presently poo-poo the discovery might be eating crow tomorrow afternoon. But I don’t think so. I smell a skunk… and it ain’t no ape!
I read a description on here of how it took them a day and a half to get the body out, and they had to keep watch at night because there were other sasquatch around. I guess that fills at least one hole in the story.
I think we are starting to beat a dead horse here……or bigfoot if you prefer.
Megatherium, I agree completely with you, specially re. the stench issue. It’s something that’s been bothering me since I’ve first heard of this story.
I really wish tomorrow will se the closure of this event, one way or the other.
PS: Truly, this has been a most Fortean Summer. Will it keep peaking until 2012? 😉
Great vid – particularly since the writer didn’t try to theorize on the last topic, just show it in it’s full glory (or lack thereof). I can only wonder what’ll happen next… Yeti? Mothman? Manbearpig?
That poor dog in the first shot. I’ve seen this before it’s when they use a dog as shark bait. Notice the tied legs. This is classic of shark fishing.
Just curious, does anyone have the same sense of “dread” as I do concerning today’s press conference? Well, maybe it will be over soon but I doubt it. Peace all.
