A Giant Hoax or Viral Marketing Campaign?
Posted by: Craig Woolheater on November 3rd, 2005
It seems that the website Giantology is part of a viral marketing campaign for a new Playstation game, Shadow of the Colossus. Several videos purporting to be of giant creatures, one that was unearthed in the ice of Siberia,
another supposedly washed up on the beach by a tsunami are posted on the website,
along with photos of a huge skeleton found in the mountains of Iran,
and a giant possible eel/plesiosaur skeleton/statue found underneath the Sulu Sea.
Interesting, but hoaxed nonetheless.

The eel one looks like a very well done photoshop project to me. I’ll have a friend take a look at it and possibly take it apart. I have seen the trailer for the video game, the in the russian video, the structure and hair would almost exactly match one of the colossi in the game. You can view the trailers here: http://gametrailers.com/gamepage.php?id=1019 . The bones in Iran also look to be fake, rather obviously.
figures – I knew nothing could be that easy. lol.
It’s really a brilliant little hoax. It reminds me of that ‘giant skeleton found in the desert’ hoax that was going around a few years back:

i respectfuly have to disagree if you actualy re-read up on the subjects the iteams are real it’s just that they arn’t bone they are a rare type of ston like the underground city near japan it is more likly that if you belive in Atlantis then the people would no doubtedly have had the ability to creat such large structures like the ell was probly a way to get acrosst eather from a island to and island or to the mainland and they others were probly tirbutes to here Gods or somethign of that nature
the ice one on the other hand i do not know about i have not heard another word aout it except yhat the man who suposibly discovered it had disapered. good thing i re read my post or i would have noticed i didn’ add this part sorry about that
[…] In a previous entry I talked about viral marketing being used with a cryptozoological theme. I found another one for a Chinese market Toyota. While some viral ads are actually hoaxes, this one was an approved Toyota ad. […]
