Gotta Give Biscardi a Hand…Of Unknown Origin
Posted by: Craig Woolheater on June 30th, 2006
The X-Ray on the left allegedly was taken of the alleged Bigfoot hand and the X-Ray on the right is alleged to be that of a human hand. Tom Biscardi is promoting the X-Ray as part of the package for joining his "group".
The hand has been discussed here on Cryptomundo on several different occasions.

Press Release from Biscardi’s website dated June 9, 2006
INITIAL DNA TEST RESULTS SHOW “BIGFOOT HAND” IS NOT FROM ANY CURRENTLY KNOWN ANIMAL!
BIGFOOT EXPEDITION RELEASES DNA RESULTS ON “BIGFOOT HAND… THE HAND OF UNKNOWN ORIGIN!”
World renown ‘Bigfoot’ researcher, Tom Biscardi , founder of Searching for Bigfoot Inc., a Bigfoot research and expedition organization headquartered in Menlo Park, California, went out to find evidence of the creature known as Bigfoot and came back with a big hand! Literally, this is a “hand of unknown origin,” as it was referred to by Dr. Todd L. Reese, D.C., a chiropractor who studied the anatomy of the hand. In a sworn affidavit, Dr. Reese stated that this severed hand is of unknown origin. “It is not human, not of any known species of primate, and not a bear!”
The fact that the hand is of unknown origin, also refers to the fact that no one seems to know where the hand actually came from. “Someone knows where the hand came from, and someone knows where the rest of the body is!” says Tom Biscardi, “but not the people who have handled the hand in its recent history… The DNA test results make this hand even more mysterious!”
Tom sent the hand out to DNA Diagnostics Center, in Fairfield, Ohio, for testing in May, 2006. The following is a summary of the results of these initial DNA tests… The DNA tests confirm that the hand is…
1) Not Human
2) Not any known primate
3) Not in even “in the system”
The DNA Laboratory was so intrigued by their findings, that they chose to do some additional testing on the hand. The results of which were received just this week. While waiting for the results of these additional test, Biscardi poses the following questions:
1) Is this the hand of an unknown species?
2) Is this the hand of an extinct species?
3) Who cut the hand from the rest of the body?
4) Where is the rest of the body?
…and according to Biscardi, “someone knows… and Searchingforbigfoot.com is trying to find out the rest of the story.”
All that is known, at this time, of the origin of the hand comes from Don Monroe of Spencer, Montana. According to Don, the hand was delivered, anonymously, to a police station in Butte, Montana, sometime in the year of 2002. The police were concerned that a crime had been committed and took the hand to the coroner. The coroner took x-rays and physically examined the hand. The coroner’s finding was that the hand was not human. According to Mr. Monroe, the Butte police continued to investigate the origin of the hand for a long time, but came up “dry.” Finally, out of desperation, they contacted Mr. Monroe, a well known local outdoorsman and Bigfoot Researcher, to see if he had any ideas. Monroe then took the hand to several scientists and labs for examination, but “…none were able to offer any conclusive evidence as to what it was… only what it was not!”
Then, in 2006, Monroe contacted Tom Biscardi. Monroe had heard Tom on one of Tom’s frequent radio appearances during the course of one of Searching for Bigfoot’s research expeditions across the United States. Biscardi met with Monroe and the two men agreed to allow Biscardi to take possession of the hand and continue the investigations, including DNA testing.
The initial DNA test came in: “not human, not any known primate…. Not in the system…" So is this, ‘the hand of unknown origin’, the hand of Bigfoot?” said Biscardi. “What do you think it is?” asks Tom Biscardi, “…and if you have any information about what this hand is, and where it is from, I (Biscardi) want to know!” “Someone cut this hand from the body, and they also cut off the finger tips of this hand, and, it was someone skilled with a knife, perhaps a surgeon, perhaps a hunter, perhaps a skinner, perhaps a Jekyll and Hyde?” Biscardi repeated, “Someone out there knows!”
As an additional note, the second set of tests performed by the Diagnostics Center came back today. They were able to perform a more detailed test involving a way to evaluate the physical condition of the DNA itself. They found that the sample DNA did show some degradation from being stored for so long in alcohol. This additional information only adds more mystery to this amazing find.
Biscardi invites people to share the mystery, and share their thoughts on the nature of this hand, at the Searching for Bigfoot Incorporated’s website. People will be able to see a picture of the actual hand. Also, for anyone interested in helping to support this expensive research, they will be given the opportunity to sign up to see additional photos, and copies of the actual DNA testing results, along with other information about this amazing find.
Tom Biscardi and the Searching for Bigfoot team are currently out on expedition. They are traveling across the United States, heading to Buffalo, New York. The team is investigating a recent sighting and photos of a creature reported by Hans Mobius of Clarence, New York.

Before I was an academic I was a nurse for 12 years. The Biscardi x-ray has been overexposed and would be one we’d send back for the radiographer to do again.
Craig every time you post something about this man, it makes me laugh!
Interesting… just possibly, he’s onto something after all. The metacarpals seem more robust than in a normal human hand at first glance, but I have no medical training.
If one of these x-rays is overexposed, wouldn’t it be the human hand on the right? The individual wrist bones are washed out.
Another odd thing here is that the fingers all seem to be about the same size. If anything, the “pinkie” is the biggest.
Well, it definitely makes me feel better that he’s not parading around with some poor dead man/woman’s hand, but why in the world would you cut the thumb and fingerprints off an animal hand?
After looking at some bear paw x-rays I think this very well may be a bear paw and the reason the thumb is cut off is to make this look more like a primate hand. The finger tips were cut off because they were the claws.
Okay, I’m not an expert on this, but it is my understanding that formaldehyde destroys or severely degrades DNA. Alcohol is also degrading to DNA, this is stated in the info about the hand above. I wonder if any of this information was taken into consideration while trying to identify the tissue. Does anyone out there work in pathology and can expand on this issue of tissue preservation and testing? Curious.
I still think this is a possibly human hand, fingertips missing in my opinion point to foul play. Strange, strange, strange.
Biscardi said:
“Someone cut this hand from the body, and they also cut off the finger tips of this hand, and, it was someone skilled with a knife, perhaps a surgeon, perhaps a hunter, perhaps a skinner, perhaps a Jekyll and Hyde?”
I am a surgeon and don’t think you need any skills to cut off a hand/finger tip or anything. As a matter of fact when I cut off toes we use something quite similar to wire cutters.
I don’t know if when they say alcohol they mean ethanol, but ethanol does not degrade DNA and is actually used in the process of isolating DNA from tissue.
I think this statement says it all
“they will be given the opportunity to sign up to see additional photos, and copies of the actual DNA testing results, along with other information about this amazing find.”
“opportunity to sign up and see…”
for a small donation I’m sure.
I’m a little more optimistic about this now.
The DNA lab he sent the sample to is accredited and well-established.
The DNA lab stated that the sample is not from a known animal, which would rule out a bear.
One possible explanation for the removed fingertips is that the person who originally turned in the hand is concerned that the corpse might be traceable to them. Either they killed the cryptid and are concerned about liability or public outrage, or perhaps they were able to collect the hand from a cryptid in government possession.
And the structure of the fingers in the X-Ray do seem very strange. The digits opposite the thumb are as large or larger than the “index” finger.
Very interesting. If everything is legitimate this could wind up being bigger than the Patterson film.
Well who knows now maybe we might have to eat a little crow about Mr.B. Still think he is a looney but that is why he or some one like him will find the big guy first.
it could be any number of possible creatures hand. there is a story around these parts in the old west, during the gold rush, the stage coach driver was in a panic because he thought he saw someone’s foot along side the road. upon further investigations the marshal realized it was the hind foot from a bear, skinned and the claws cut off.
One thing Tom Bishoaxi forgot to mention is that before Don Monroe (who actually lives in the State of Washington), gave it to him he gave it to another guy named Richard Grover who paraded it around for several months. Richard ran it by several Doctors in the Seattle area as well as Dr. W. H. Fahrenbach who conveniently kept screwing up samples for DNA testing so he could quote “need the whole hand itself to conduct proper DNA analysis.” Yeah right.
When Richard couldn’t achieve the results/attention that Don Monroe desired, he pulled it from him and sold his soul to the devil a.k.a. Tom Biscardi. And we all know how much the media loves a good hoaxer (see; New York Times, NBC, CNN).
a bear skeleton is extremely close to a human except it has no collar bones. they look very much like a human except of course size in some cases.
i wont believe a thing biscardi says unless i see documents and can verify them independently. meaning he has to submit the hand for testing. they take the sample and do the test and biscardi has nothing to do with it.
biscardi is a very poor pt barnum who lies. he is nothing more than a self promoting side show Carny.
I agree it looks like a bear paw.
I’ve skinned out many black bear and that last knuckle is clearly where the claws were attached.
well, that’s definitely a bear paw. take a look on this picture.
(ok, it’s the paw of a cave-bear, but they are close to our bears.)… if you would cut off the claws, it would be very similar to our “Sassy hand”.
Bear paw. No doubts.
+1 for bear paw. Skinned and partially defleshed, and declawed. The pinky is enlarged and angled in exactly the same way.
So how did they alter the DNA of the “bear paw” so that it comes back “not in the system” when analyzed by a fairly prominent DNA lab? (I’m assuming bears and other animals are “in the system”.)
Then you have the chiropractor that has signed an affidavit saying it is not human and not from a bear. And even a layman looking as the X-Ray can see that it is similar to a human hand but oddly different.
I’m not saying its definitely genuine, but there is some pretty good evidence starting to tip the scale in that direction. I wouldn’t be so quick to dismiss it as a mistake or hoax at this point in time.
I remember this hand. It was found in Va, not far from me.
There was a foot found later on trying to find the rest of the body.
