BFRO vs. Cryptomundo

Posted by: Craig Woolheater on July 8th, 2006

Over on the Johor Hominid website, people have been posting comments on their scrolling message board asking for the photos to be released. Others have posted saying don’t listen to the whiners demanding that the photos be released.

Some of the latest comments…

guest_7196 : Why no photos yet?????

tindalos : hopefully the pics will come out soon…

guest_2451 : I agree

guest_2188 : Vincent, don’t be bothered or distracted by the “super-fans” … the hardcore geeks who are impatient. They do not matter. Don’t let their remarks deter you. from MM (Is this Matt Moneymaker?)

guest_436 : STICK TO YOUR GUNS PEOPLE, DON’T LET IMPATIENT CRY BABYS BOTHER YOU WITH THEIR TIRADES OF “S HOW THE PICS OR I WON’T BELEIVE ANYMORE!!

guest_2120 : Sean and Vincent … You don’t need to post updates to Cryptomundo … rather, post them on your own web site, so you don’t have to listen to ignorant quips from losers and shut-ins. If the BFRO site has a link directly to your site, it will get 1000 times more web traffic than Cryptomundo will ever do for you. (Is this Matt Moneymaker again? Or just another BFRO sycophant?)

Cryptomundo reader jsnpritchett posted the following message:

jsnpritchett : Matt Moneymaker: why are you trying to turn this into a “battle” between the BFRO and Cryptomundo? If you read my comments, you’ll see that I suggested posting the updates here and/or on Cryptomundo. I suggested Cryptomundo because Sean has been active there. Why refer to people who post at Cryptomundo as “losers” and “shut-ins?” Most of the people who post there, including me, simply want the pictures to be made public. Why don’t our opinions matter? (And no, I have no affiliation

So I posted the following message:

ecwool : 1000 times more traffic? You think so, huh? Well, you can take a gander at the website traffic details between Cryptomundo and BFRO that I will post to Cryptomundo tonight. Go to Alexa.com and check traffic ranking for sites and compare the 2 sites and you will see…

So is it Matt Moneymaker, or perhaps someone else at the BFRO, that is claiming that the BFRO website would drive 1000 times the traffic to the Johor Hominid site with a link there versus what would come from a link from Cryptomundo?

Below are the traffic ranking graphs from Alexa.com, comparing the traffic to both sites. Mind you, Cryptomundo went live on September 29th of 2005. That was the date that I posted the very first topic here on Cryptomundo. So we are talking about a site that has been online a few days longer than nine months.

Traffic Rank Graph

The above image is the traffic rank for the last 12 months. You can see when Cryptomundo went live, it is the spike of blue right before the word October, September 29th. Before January 1st, 2006, we were pretty consistantly outranking the BFRO, and have continued to do so since.

Below is the traffic rank detail for the last six months, which will give a slightly larger graphic.

Once again, Cryptomundo traffic rank is blue, BFRO is red.

And before anybody accuses me of starting this, read the posts from the Johor Hominid website above. I’m just stating facts…Go to Alexa.com and see for yourself.

  1. Scarfe responds:

Well, the BFRO is pretty used to endorsing ideas without checking the facts fully.

  2. shumway10973 responds:

for the most part, the bfro site is just another info site where all you can do is read. there’s no discussion. The only thing that they do that I like is have sightings split up by regions. I have discovered several sighting here in the foothills of California, not far from Tahoe. but I enjoy the discussions here.

  3. shovethenos responds:

Regardless of who started this little tiff it isn’t worth escalating.

Say what you will about BFRO, but they have some really valuable resources over there. The sightings database is excellent. And the sightings map is great too – and a valuable tool to getting the “big picture” of what is going on. (Sort of like the “crime maps” or “incident maps” that some police departments find very useful.)

In any case it isn’t worth it. Just ignore any anti-cryptomundo comments.

  4. Ouroborus Jay responds:

    This feud is awfully tiresome.

Sorta like the wait for the Johor pics…

  5. stonelk responds:

Sounds petty to me. Working together would be so much better.

  6. Alton Higgins responds:

BFRO vs Cryptomundo? How can there be a “feud” between entities that are almost completely different? That’s sort of like comparing the Houston Chronicle and the University of Houston, or imagining that McDonald’s is going against Walmart.

As has been previously stated, Cryptomundo is about news and comment. I see it as sort of the Paul Harvey of the cryptid community. The BFRO is engaged in totally different pursuits.

About the only way they really can be compared is by web traffic. From that perspective, the data seem to speak clearly. But again, people go to each site for different purposes.

  7. Ole Bub responds:

    Good morning Crypto Bloggers….

The discussion should be about sasquatch not our differences…JMHO

Alton and Shovetheno’s make excellent points…BFRO’s history and data base are excellent assets regardless of who’s the adminstrator…regarding the expedition fees…whatever it takes to keep the “lights” on…with proper accounting controls….JMHO

This privately funded blog is a forum for those who passionately care….no one benefits from the discord….which plays into the arguments of the skeptics….JMHO

The Alexa ratings show what an excellent blog Cryptomundo has become….kudos to Craig, John, Rick and Loren for keeping it interesting….JMHO

Let’s keep those contributions rolling in….and how about that capture protocol and rapid response discussion?

Melissa et al, at the TBRC have created an interesting female perspective blog…with some great interviews…certainly worth checking out…perhaps they will post a link…JMHO

    seeing is believing….

    ole bub and the dawgs

  8. Tim Cullen responds:

    Craig,

I know I’m preaching to the choir by telling you this, but the posts by both “guest_2188” and “guest_2120” have Matt Moneymaker written all over them. Unfortunately for Matt, he’s the leopard that will never change his spots. Way to go, Matt. Glad to see you’re still doing your best to kill the best thing you ever put together.

  9. TemplarKnight21c responds:

Well…I actually am a loser and a shut-in, so I can’t really take offense. I have been to both sites, and honestly, I prefer Cryptomundo. Yes, BFRO has maps and charts and audio and little doo-dads and whosa-whatsits, but on Cryptomundo we can be active in discussions and debates, create theories and speculations. And what is science but theories and speculations anyway?

Just to put another nail in the coffin…The atmosphere is better for learing. The people on BFRO post things as fact, right from the get-go. On Cryptomundo, things get picked apart and studied. But that’s just my civilian two-cents.

  10. robzilla responds:

I came across this site by reading posts on cryptozoology.com. I like it here there is intellegent debate here i find it interesting.

  11. chrisandclauida2 responds:

Matt has destroyed his and the bfro’s reputation. he has to go outside the country to find someone who will listen to him and doesnt know the real story.

he is acting like a whiny 4 year old crying about traffic and mistreatment.

it is sad to see how fast he destroyed the reputation of the bfro. hell they might as well have biscardi as a curator. their reputation might actually improve

  12. Loren Coleman responds:

Craig is on-target to express his feelings, opinions and the facts via such a blog.

On the other hand, anyone who puts down others as “losers and shut-ins” and brags incorrectly about website numbers should, frankly, be ashamed of himself.

    Back to the quest.

  13. harleyb responds:

I stumbled across the bfro site before this one, but I LOVE Ya’lls site like that templar dude explained, we can make theories and formulate without prejudice. So, all I gots to say is Cryptomundo 4 life!!! Yeahh, yeahh!!! Keep up the freshness, and make mine cryptomundo!!!

  14. shadowparks responds:

how old is M.M. like six years old. lol

  15. Mfdcapt4 responds:

    WHO Cares…. Read both!

  16. Jeremy_Wells responds:

Honestly though, it is like comparing apples and oranges. Cryptomundo, with the blog aspect, is the kind of site that encourages repeat visits. Plus, with the limited scope of the BFRO site (hairy bipeds only) versus the wide ranging interests of cryptomundo readers (everything from BF to sea/lake monsters to rediscovered extinct species) you have more chance of grabbing that random browser who then becomes a repeat reader.
If you want to do a print media analogy. It is like comparing the readership of “Widgets Monthly” magazine (not a real magazine) with “The Daily Engineering News” (not a real newspaper).
Someone with widget related news though, would be wise to place ads (links) with both.

  17. aaha responds:

Every day Cryptomundo brings something new to the table. It is very dynamic and lend’s insight to new cases in crytozoology or it elaborates on the classics. It has no peers – there’s really no need for discussion beyond that point. A Honda is a Honda and a Mercedes is a Mercedes. Please tell the Emperor to put a robe on.

  18. harleyb responds:

That’s on the real tip though,Cryptomundo readers such as myself have so many diffrent subjects to research.Shoot,I get off work and stay on this site for hours before I know it I done looked up everything from chupacabra to sas,you name it god bless Mr.Coleman and crew and make mine Cryptomundo 4-LIFE!!!

  19. khat responds:

I wish that I had known about cryptomundo when I reported my sighting. It is a professionally operated web site that offers people the forum to report a sighting and to get feedback. Not a website full of so called experts who are only interested in one upping everyone, Oh yeah, that’s the bfro (lowercase mine). By the way the definition of an expert is: an Ex is a has been and a spurt is a drip under pressure! Get some class emperor expert.

  20. twblack responds:

There is no Feud simple WE WIN here at Cryptomundo!!!!

  21. tapper responds:

I’ve been viewing and reviewing Cryptomundo for quite some time now and must say that I find it far more useful than BFRO, primarily because of its different points of view. While BFRO is a great resource, it’s dated.

Still, both sites are regularly visited by me and offer extremely valuable information. There’s plenty of room on the Web for CM and BFRO … and others for that matter so, Matt, if you are once again marking your alleged territory, stop.

  22. superd responds:

Thanks for the graphs, the proof is in the pudding as to popularity. I frequent both sites for different reasons, but find myself visiting here more and more. Thanks for this format and forum to keep intouch with the sasquatch community. Dave
