Steve Niles’ Bigfoot
Posted by: Craig Woolheater on November 1st, 2006
Steve Niles‘ four issue comic book Bigfoot was a collaboration with Rob Zombie. I have the four issue set, signed by Steve Niles and Rob Zombie. While the comic books are interesting, they certainly paint Bigfoot in a violent way. There is much blood shed.
The four issue set is available on Amazon.com.
The interesting news out today, posted on Steve’s blog yesterday, is that the comic book series is apparently being made into a movie.
Here is what Steve posted on his blog:
I’ve spent a great deal of the last few months playing catch-up on deadlines and I’m happy to report that I’m not only caught up, but ahead of the game on a couple things. I have a draft of the BIGFOOT movie. We’re pounding out some details, but there’s a draft!
About Craig Woolheater
Co-founder of Cryptomundo in 2005.
I have appeared in or contributed to the following TV programs, documentaries and films:
OLN's Mysterious Encounters: "Caddo Critter", Southern Fried Bigfoot, Travel Channel's Weird Travels: "Bigfoot", History Channel's MonsterQuest: "Swamp Stalker", The Wild Man of the Navidad, Destination America's Monsters and Mysteries in America: Texas Terror - Lake Worth Monster, Animal Planet's Finding Bigfoot: Return to Boggy Creek and Beast of the Bayou.
Imagine that… Rob Zombie and much blood shed… Who would of thunk…
I have to agree with Craig, this certainly is Bigfoot from his most violent side, but hey …with Steve Niles and Rod Zombie as authors no surprise there, and I actually enjoyed the story, as unrealistic as it might be. What dissapointed me though, was the artwork by Richard Corben. Corben was a major influence when I was a kid learning to draw (I still compare my drawings to his), and I was actually not to fond of his take on bigfoot. Even still, Rob Zombie, Richard Corben and Bigfoot all at once …I was as excited as a small child the first time I heard about this one!!
Yeah, that was supposed to be ROB, not ROD, Zombie! Sowwy Rob.
When will the exploitation of the Sasquatch end?
the ending for the comic serial left room for a sequel. It was a fun read.
The big guy definitely had anger issues.
Great… Now Bigfoot is a malevolent, calculating creature in the minds of the mass media addicted youth. The odds grow slimmer next time, he’ll survive an encounter. Media does shape and form attitudes no matter what the pundits say, so out there if there is a Bigfoot , he’ll will have to deal with a conception of him not as shy mysterious creature that just wants to be left alone, to now a monstrous, vengeful creature waiting to pounce with Jason or Mike onto sleeping campers and lovers lane types. What’s next, skunk apes tearing up the local marina, Ivory billed woodpeckers pecking out the eyes of Ozark frog giggers, Mothman carrying off coeds in their tank tops?
Yes, I know there are probably a dozen or so movies out there but Rob Zombie gets that instant mass appeal that Lance Henriksen doesn’t get.
