The Spirit of Sasquatch

Posted by: Craig Woolheater on December 4th, 2006

Last June while attending the Bigfoot Rendezvous in Pocatello, ID, I picked up a card that was sitting at the registration table. It was for a woman by the name of Kathleen Jones. Along with her contact info, it stated her title as:

Interspecies Communicator and Shamanic Practitioner

Telepathic Communication Sessions with Sasquatch

Last month, the Ventura (CA) County Star published an article about Kathleen Jones and her communications with Sasquatch/Bigfoot.

Old Sasquatch has sage advice for a new age

Amenities on Kathleen Jones’ spread include a fairy mound, sacred space and spiritual power spots for hosting medicine circles.

The retired real estate agent recently hung out her shingle on the Internet as an interspecies communicator and shamanic practitioner.

So I know what you’re thinking: She lives in Ojai.

That was my first thought when I learned through a dear friend — who was surfing when she should have been sleeping — about Jones’ unusual Web site SasquatchSpeaks.org.

Jones actually does not live in Ojai, but she is an Ojai resident in spirit.

I came to learn the Northern California native, who owns a farm in southern Oregon, is not your garden-variety interspecies communicator, either. You know, those mediums who converse with neurotic lap dogs and show horses with stage fright.

By her own admission, Jones is tight with the Sasquatch who inhabit the woods near her spread in the Siskiyous.

Sasquatch, more commonly known as Bigfoot, were not much in the lore of my urban Chicago girlhood. However, I have since learned these creatures are about as tall as an NBA player and covered with dark fur. They reportedly give off a foul order and emit high-pitched squeals. Depending on whose account you put stock in, they are either fearsome beasts or big "Harry and the Hendersons" teddy bears.

Pages on the Internet are devoted to sightings and, I suppose, sniffings, most of which occur in remote areas such as Sespe Creek. Which is near, yes, Ojai.

Since nary a Sasquatch has been captured on anything but film, some folks are skeptical they even exist. Imagine that. Let’s just say I am open-minded.

Jones tells me the Sasquatch have decided to share the knowledge of their ancient tribe with us humans, and she is their designated spokeswoman.

"The wisdom now being shared by Sasquatch is pivotal in shepherding the humans through the upcoming changes on the planet Earth we all share," Jones declared.

To communicate with Sasquatch, she must go into the sacred place on her property. She detects their presence and their smell, which she describes as earthy. Soon her mind fills with their thoughts, which she writes down verbatim. For most folks she charges $95 an hour for a telephone consultation. But because I am a reporter seeking her out as a fresh source, she offered her services free.

Originally I wanted Sasquatch to predict the outcome of Tuesday’s gubernatorial election. But since Phil Angelides’ charisma is harder to detect than Sasquatch, I figured I would try a more heated topic.

Ask, I said, about global warming. Some say Mother Earth is experiencing hot flashes and mere mortals are arrogant to believe they can change the climate of the globe. And if global warming is not man-made, then there is nothing we can do to reverse it.

Others say the inconvenient truth of it is we are baking this lonely planet in emissions from automobiles and smokestacks.

Sasquatch, it seems, puts the blame on us.

Jones made me promise to quote exactly, so here goes: "The humans are contributing to the warming, as you call it. They are trying to control the natural forces and will thus cause themselves to have more pain during this shift of consciousness. The more the humans are out of spirit, out of heart, the greater will be the pain, until it becomes so great that they will be forced to make the shift."

This is when things got hairy. Sasquatch then gave Jones a frightening "telepathic picture" with fear, anger and greed shooting up like flames from the Earth and burning away the ozone layer.

So what can we do about it?

Sasquatch, again: "It is an individual process, but we are all here together, and must work together in this transformation. It appears dark now, but the light is beckoning. ? Live in the light, live in the love in which we were all created."

OK, now I get it. The maharishi is Bigfoot. You never see them at the same party.

The following information is taken from her website, SasquatchSpeaks.org.

The wisdom now being shared by Sasquatch is pivotal in shepherding the humans through the upcoming changes on the planet Earth we all share. In alignment with and connection to the Spirit of Sasquatch, Kathleen offers a variety of communication sessions including, but not limited to:

• Telepathic Sessions with telephone report and written transcript
You submit questions/statements and Kathleen facilitates two-way communication between you and Sasquatch in her sacred space.

• Shamanic Journeys with Sasquatch with telephone report
Kathleen will journey to non-ordinary reality with Sasquatch to obtain guidance and wisdom on your behalf.

• Soul Retrievals with Sasquatch with telephone report
Kathleen will facilitate a soul retrieval in non-ordinary reality on your behalf with the powerful assistance of Sasquatch.

See, SHE CALLS THEM A TRIBE! Pagans blur the lines between animal and humans quite routinely.

  2. CamperGuy responds:

I lack the ability to describe how skeptical I am of this. Total disbelief would be a start.

  3. a man called jim responds:

$95 an hour wow. So much money to be made by a creature not recognized by science yet!!

  4. captiannemo responds:

Let me see…How can I make a buck?

    Hmm..Hmm…Oh! I got it!

    Sasquatch interspecies communicator!

  5. airforce47 responds:

I’m not opposed to people making money off the Sasquatch phenomena. Given the chance I would most likely do it myself to some extent.

However, this goes a little too far for me, but if people ante up then more power to the lady.

Where do you draw law between legitimacy and fraud?

    LL

  6. Al responds:

    This is a joke, right?

I mean, does anyone take this seriously?

If so, I think there may be another Darwin award coming up!

  7. Ole Bub responds:

    Good morning Cryptos….

The skeptics should have a field day with this lady, perhaps she will visit one of the active forum chat rooms and “show us the way”…

Lots of productive places to spend your bigfoot bucks…I doubt this is one of them…JMHO

    No bucks…no bigfoot…

    ole bub and the dawgs

  8. mystery_man responds:

And they wonder why nobody takes Bigfoot seriously. Groan.

  9. Mnynames responds:

Well, you know, there’s only so many Atlantean Priests, Dolphin Elders, Alien Overlords, and Ascended Masters to go around, you know. Tough competition, I agree, but I think the old man of the forest is up to the challenge.

  10. Ray Soliday responds:

Life-changing advise from a being who can not make fire. Maybe Biscardi could get a photo shoot with the Big(foot)bodhisattva, if he asked nicely. Hey, maybe, bigfoot is related to the yeti, who is, probably, (I am speculating here), well versed in tibeatan buddhism.

  11. Mnynames responds:

On a more serious note, Sasquatch has always been a spiritual figure, as evidenced by the lore associated with him amongst the Native Americans, so this should come as no surprise, especially when found in a “New Age” context, which is incredibly syncretic. Besides, to true shamans, Sasquatch is just another spirit, as worthy of consulting for its own wisdom as any other, such as Wolf, Fox, Thunderbird, etc.

  12. Al responds:

The next thing you know, she’ll be invited to Lansdale’s place, they’ll all hold hands and sing “Kum ba ya!”.

Profiteering at it’s finest. Only in America can such prosperity be achieved.

  13. Ray Soliday responds:

OK, Mnynames, I can concede to that, however, it is a spirit guide that K. Jones is communicating with, not an actual, physical being.

    Three possible venues,

    (1) she is a charlatan,

    (2) she is projecting her own inner gift in the third person, personified as Sasquatch,

    (3) there truly exists a spirit realm populated by, among others, spirit guides.

I believe all three are a possibility, and will not judge which is most probable.

  14. Ray Soliday responds:

    Anybody seen my buttons?

  15. Sergio responds:

    I’m speechless, and uhm, writeless.

  16. alanborky responds:

Speaking as myself, now, and as one who’s endured a lifetime of very strange, often flamboyantly visual experiences (possibly as a result of temporal lobe epilepsy), I’ve been forced to conclude the world may be far more strange than we can ever conceive.

So this lady might well be exactly what she purports to be, and thus able to provide genuinely useful information concerning Bigfoot’s existence, but Bigfoot better turn up in person if she expects $95 an hour out of me!

  17. kittenz responds:

Oh give me a break! And I thought that the people who plunk down big bucks for cat psychiatrists were nuts. That people would pay money for this “service” is yet one more indication that there are more horses’ rumps than there are horses.

  18. DARHOP responds:

I have to agree with Kittenz. Give me a break!

  19. DARHOP responds:

We have another Ramtha here. Bigfoot channeler. WOW!

See, SHE CALLS THEM A TRIBE! Pagans blur the lines between animal and humans quite routinely.~

Most Pagans are pretty grounded in reality, and I resent the generalization.

There are a lot of people in the Pagan community who are interested in Bigfoot, Nessie, etc., and they usually approach it in the same method as those embracing any other faith.

  21. Raptorial responds:

I’d vote that this gal is typing this from the looney bin.

  22. TemplarKnight21c responds:

Sasquatch, I’m a little offended by your ‘pagan’ remark. There are plenty of definitions of pagan; not all of us are tree huggers and vegetarians. And humans ARE animals. What did you think we were, vegetables?

  23. YourPTR! responds:

Humans are humans, animals are animals and it deeply offensive to those of the Christian faith to insinuate otherwise. An animal doesn’t have a soul or a culture.

  24. Mnynames responds:

Ray Soliday- Yes, her backyard would be one of the last places I’d look for a flesh-and-blood hairy biped.

YourPTR!- Different populations of chimps have different learned behaviours and use of tools. By definition, this is culture. Animals exhibit every behaviour we once so ignorantly believed exclusive to our own species- They fight, they love, they hate, they make war on their own kind, they mourn their dead (Elephants collect the bones of their dead, and often return to the site of their relative’s death, even decades later), they have language, even regional dialects, they educate their young, They can do simple arithmetic (Even Rhesus Monkeys have this ability), they have established ways of doing things that differ from group to group (Culture and customs), heck they even seem to have rituals and what one might term religious practices (I believe it was Jane Goodall who noted chimps behaving in a ritual manner towards the moon and rainstorms).

Are there differences, sure. We have written and somewhat more complex languages than they do (Although several species seem to have the ability to learn them, even pictographic representations). Our social structures are much more complex (Often needlessly so, if you ask me), and we have an incredibly vast array of tools that we’ve developed. And we often make distinctions where there are none, and ignore the instincts we share with all the other animals on this planet.

As for being offended, I think most Pagans (And Pet lovers, for that matter) would be offended by your assertion that animals do not have souls. Speaking more theologically, how dull and awful would a heaven be if it were filled with nothing but humans? Heck, it wouldn’t even have trees or grass! Anyplace devoid of nature is no place to spend eternity…

  25. DARHOP responds:

YourPTR? Animals have souls. What, you think when an animal dies that’s it?

Why would they be different than a person?

Didn’t God give all creatures a soul? They have a will to survive they gotta have a soul. What about whale songs? Is that just noise? They are communicating. How does one communicate without a soul? All animals communicate in some way or another. It just seems to reason that they would have a soul. Look at how elephants remember things years later. They gotta have a soul. Just my opinion. And I don’t think I’m alone on that.

And I am of Christian faith. So please, speak for yourself. Talk about offensive. Jeez.

Sorry. Comments have been closed.
