Bigfoot and Benz … Mercedes that is
Posted by: Craig Woolheater on October 23rd, 2005
On March 1st of this year, I received a rather cryptic email with a video clip attached. Following is the text from the email:
Not sure what this is. This was discovered in the out-takes of 28,000 feet of film during one-lights for a Mercedes car shoot, doing what is called "running footage," shooting the various models each year to be inserted into dealership ads. In filming the Mercedes ML 350 and ML 500 all-wheel drive snow footage on a logging road in Tahoe. This was first thought to be a crew member accidentally walking into the shot. Upon closer inspection and then questioning, all crew were at base camp and the road was miles and miles away from any public access.
Any thoughts?

Crew member, huh?
That explains the dark clothing from head to toe and the weird behavior… 🙂
This was sent by someone from an ad agency, probably the one that was involved with the ad campaign. I replied with some questions and never received any additional comment.

Great Story 🙂
hi melissa & craig wow that is a very interesting possible sasquatch filmfootage segment but it does need more research done to it. thanks bill 🙂 please keep me informed ok 🙂
Interesting video. I find it kind of amuzing that in the first shot the “creature” is maybe 100 yds behind the vehicle, but in the second shot the “creature” is about 100 ft. behind the vehicle. It is amazing that they got one BF to cross the road behind the car, much less two if them. WOW, what a discovery!
to quote austin powers; “it’s a man, baby!”
these are 2 entirely different takes of the same shot. watch the car not the man. -its skids all over on shot 2 while it’s straight on first take.
D
After listening to Dr. Meldrum’s great lecture on BF anatomy and comparing his comments to the creature in the Benz film. …………I think the creature in question is a spy from BMW trying to observe the competition skidding in the snow
But the bottom line here is…..What a great commercial. You just know people are gonna see it and the word will spread, just as it has here, and tada……you have something everyone wants to see and talk about. Marketing genius in my book.
Two words: Viral Marketing. In this case, it’s almost funny.
Two different shots. The driver doesn’t “freak out” on either one. Neither the car being filmed nor the filming vehicle stops (at the very least, the driver of the mercedes HAD to see it as he approached it) – figure the odds on that happening.
… and the advertising company didn’t do anything with it, nor did mercedes, nor did it make it’s way into the mainstream media.
More than likely, the ad company initially decided to do a shot with a bigfoot in it. I can hear the announcer now – – “The new mercedes, where the bigfoot meets the road…”
Honestly, I’d LOVE to see a bigfoot. I WANT to believe. But this crap has gone too far. Gimme a break.
