Update: Wisconsin Bigfoot Video
Posted by: Craig Woolheater on July 14th, 2006
Update on the Wisconsin Bigfoot video that was discussed here on Cryptomundo earlier this week.
I have been informed that Steve Kulls of SquatchDetective.com was on his way to Wisconsin yesterday morning. I received the following message from a member of that organization on July 12.
Thanks so much for calling attention to the July 4 St Croix Wisconsin video in your blog on Cryptomundo.
Yesterday I logged in on the You Tube site and PM’d the videographer (swane22). I encouraged him to contact Steve Kulls as a 3rd party expert on such issues to determine whether the video can be corroborated as credible and authentic. I gave him Steve’s email address and the Squatchdetective hot line phone number. The videographer replied and told me the video was taken down one of the trails leading to the south campground at Interstate State Park (just downstream from St. Croix Falls). He added that he thought he was filming a bear up until the time it grabbed a branch, broke it and threw it towards him.
Last night, Steve called me at home to say he had just received a phone call from the St. Croix videographer. The videographer had offered to send Steve a copy of the original video for analysis. From what Steve said to me on the phone, he is enthused about investigating this report. He told me he had already planned to begin the 18-hour drive to Wisconsin this morning (July 12) with a member of the Elmyra research group to follow-up the BFRO expeditions in Phipps, WI and our photograph investigation near Florence, WI. Perhaps he’ll find enough time and fuel to meet the videographer or visit Interstate State Park while he is in Wisconsin.
Staff Researcher,
Squatchdetective Organization
The latest from the organization is as follows:
A team of investigators from upstate New York drove to Wisconsin this week. One of them is Steve Kulls (see his web site at The Squatch Detective). Steve spoke with the videographer by telephone on Tuesday night to make arrangements for obtaining a copy of the original tape. Steve’s Squatchdetective organization is now working with the videographer to identify the location where the video was taken and determine whether details of the background story can be corroborated.
The following screencaps from the video came from a poster at Bigfoot Forums.
About Craig Woolheater
Co-founder of Cryptomundo in 2005.
I have appeared in or contributed to the following TV programs, documentaries and films:
OLN's Mysterious Encounters: "Caddo Critter", Southern Fried Bigfoot, Travel Channel's Weird Travels: "Bigfoot", History Channel's MonsterQuest: "Swamp Stalker", The Wild Man of the Navidad, Destination America's Monsters and Mysteries in America: Texas Terror - Lake Worth Monster, Animal Planet's Finding Bigfoot: Return to Boggy Creek and Beast of the Bayou.
This should prove most interesting.
Good to hear someone is following up on this. YouTube is great, but internet video is just NOT clear enough.
I’m undecided about this one right now. Still I’d say it’s one of the more likely to be credible pieces of film that we’ve seen in a very very long time.
Wow, that Bigfoot Forums is a cool place!
I may be a little biased…
Anyway, I’m looking forward to hearing more about this video. One, I think it looks really good. If fake, I think it’s a good fake. Two, it’s in my neck of the woods. I always like it when the big guy’s seen around here.
Good afternoon…Craig…
Excellent work…
Thank you…
seeing is believing…
ole bub and the dawgs
In the 43rd second where the thing in question is picking at a tree it reminded me of a farside cartoon where a bigfoot picks up a woman in front of the screen in a theater and people start yelling “Down in front!…Sit down!…Sit Down!” Who knows maybe Gary Larson of all people predicted what Bigfoot looks like.
Please keep us posted on this one Craig. Not sure if real or hoax but it is interesting to say the least.
On the Sasquatch detective site what is the significance of the red versions of the pictures. I realize that they’re negatives that have the contrast bumped up and have a red tint…. but why?
I question the reliability of anyone who thinks he/she can definitively call something a “sagittal crest,” based on these poor quality frame-captures.
I called it a saggital crest – Is that a definitive statement, surely not – only a possibility… but it is the top of the head of whatever is shown in the film. The screen caps aren’t much when taken out of context with out the video movement… Take a look at the film again and pause and play at 0:43 & 0:47 secs. and make your own call…
As for the red photos on squatchdetective.com… I’m sure Steve Kulls could explain better, but those are spectral analysis image renderings designed to pick up photo digital photo manipulation enhancements – i.e. if someone photoshoped something into the photograph you would see a spectrum variation from the red color incdicating tampering I believe…
Well, at least someone is actually investigating this in a thorough, documented manner. Better than the group that came through the Buffalo/Clarence area and banged on trees in “Bigfoot Rhythm”. …Although that WOULD be a kick ass name for a band…
ummmm. no. creative. yes. better than most. yes. but ummmm. no
When we see the real thing- we will know it. You will see this critter move in amazing ways compared to all of the fakes. Why? Because it will be real.
No fake Patterson arm swinging. No making too much noise. We will know it when we see it.
Not if it’s posted on You Tube. It’ll be all blocky and hard to see…
hey everybody these pictures to me doesnt show anything genuine.when hunters or people in the woods walking need to get clearer pictures such as closeups
I’m just an amatuer at this but when you watch the video, between 40 and 42 seconds the video cuts out. Why would he cut out while filming a bigfoot? But im just an amateur, it might be a fake and it might not i can’t tell. I hope its real though.
If I look hard enough at those pixelated images I can see Swampthing, Bigfoot, The Queen, and Chupacabra playing cards. And they all have saggital crests.
I look forward to seeing what an analysis of the original video turns up, because anything posted on the internet, especially you-tube, is ridiculous.
I’ll admit that the suit is good compared to some of the stuff we’ve seen lately, but everything else points towards human-made.
MAYBE it’s an autistic sasquatch. Any sane animal wouldn’t be stopping for some bushes though.
how can i see the video if i can see the video?
So this guy follows this thing at fairly close range through the woods, at it never notices him or looks back to see what the hell is following it?
Riiiiiiiiight…..
Ah, I need to see the video — if I can at some point. To be honest the second still looks like a human skull ‘looking down’ to me. Still not sure what I am seeing in the first still
the fact that the filmer is excited and cooperative means 1 of 2 things: 1)this is the real thing or something strange enough to get someone excited or 2)this guy is cocky and thinks he pull a fast one over on us that will believe anything. either way the truth will be know soon enough. glad to hear biscardi isn’t leading this one.
I must say there ARE some intriguing frames in this one, I swear I can see a head-on face shot early in the 00:14 area of the tape and another face shot, but with eyeshine, at 00:51, this second one is easier to see as the video seems to stop on it easier than the earlier one.
Both of these frames seem to show something that looks like what one would expect to see on the face of a bigfoot.
Also, there is a frame where he is bending over, breaking the branch, that looks as if one can see his, ah, testicular encasement, shall we say? (light colored orbs) hanging down and swinging a bit as he is throwing his weight around. If this is a fake, they have thought of everything.
the problem with posting past hoaxers methods is that new attempts to “get one over on us” will probably get better. As some other poster said before, video is going to be an unreliable method to get a definitive answer on the Big Guy’s existence unless it is a clear shot where we can see an actual tall, broad, bipedal, hairy creature interacting in its environment without shaky cameras or blurry trees.
If that was the real thing that cameraman would have p—d his pants and ran like a bat out of hell.
Like others posting on this forum, I have seen numerous Bigfoot videos over the years. These videos of some dark figure in the bushes usually come across as fake to me. If someone didn’t have a convincing costume then this is how they would do it. I don’t think the Patterson film has any competition in the foreseeable future. The only way film footage is going to be convincing is to film one of these creatures in the open.
Wow, that’s not too far from here! Could an animal like that travel 90 miles? Yah, I bet it could.
I can’t watch the video due to the limitations of my old Ford Model-T computer. But morphogically speaking, the object in the still photograph at the page top (above) appears to be within naturalistic range for squatchy. (The second photo above does nothing for me.) The proportions of the upper body/head/arms/shoulders are absolutely acceptable and in conformity with my personal experience. Too bad it’s a digital photo of poor quality – as such it must remain a tantalizing blobsquatch. If I was a betting man, and the photo was a bit clearer, my money would be on this one.

Hi All,
If this is a fake I think these guys are good as I am very impressed with this. I do agree with simian though that fakers can get better the more they learn how people like Craig catch them out.
The thing that impressed me most in this video is the movement of the object. Very natural compared to other fake vids we have seen. The only two downsides right now: The fact that it was on youtube residing with many other fake bigfoot videos and the fact that we seem to be in the bigfoot silly season part of the year when a lot of these kinds of things are released.
Thanks for sharing Craig and good luck to Steve on his mission.
the more I look at this… well the quality is poor on youtube… but the one thing that keeps perplexing me is how he zooms in to where you can get a good view of the shaggy coat for about half a second, then he zooms out to where you can see nothing…
suspicious that, and yeah, it does look like the wookie suit
i live about 20 miles from st. croix falls. i fish there on a regular basis and at night i’ve heard some strange stuff. howls and such. i distinctly remember one time in particular (around 1 a.m.) when i swear something big was walking a straight line back and forth in the tree line. i mean it sounded like a human stepping etc. i was shore fishing for waly’s and it went on for 10 or 15 minutes. it was not a bear, of this i am sure. strange stuff crosses your mind in these situations and it got to the point were i was so nervous i packed up fast and jogged away. was it sasquatch? probably not. but it did cross my mind. there have been sitings of sasquatch in this area before (grantsburg WI) (rice lake WI). it’s a very well covered area, forests etc. after seeing this story, i can believe it may be true. the thought of sasquatch in this area is indeed fascinating.
It appears that Mr. Kulls didnt get a chance to investigate this video. He explains on his site:
“There have been numerous blogs about this picture originally found on Youtube.com where this interesting bit of film was found.
What we do know is that the videographer, did NOT respond to detailed inquiries, (although did respond to initial inquiries).
The videographer did NOT call Squatchdetective.com Founder Steve Kulls, to be personally interviewed while in the S-D was in Wisconsin.
However we did find the following anomalies with the film:
1. The “creature” never acknowledges the videographer.
2. The “creature” appears to have great difficulty walking in the area, yet the videographer stated it moved with great speed.
3. The “creature” appears to have a hard time breaking a branch despite knowing these creatures can easily snap a 4 inch diameter tree.
Conclusion:
Due to lack of details other than location, we initially feel the film is a hoax. “
