Meanwhile, in Burlington, the "Vermont Lake Monsters," a minor league baseball team affiliated with the Washington Nationals, have started their own photo contest.

The mascot of the Vermont Lake Monsters is "Champ," known to cryptozoologists, of course, as the cryptids inhabiting Lake Champlain. So their promotional photographic contest is naturally called "Champ Sightings."

From their press release, they proclaim:

The Vermont Lake Monsters are asking their fans to take along their favorite Lake Monsters gear and apparel on vacation or travel, snap a picture with a famous landmark and then send the photo to the team to be eligible to win one of three prizes. The more interesting the photo, the more likely it will win.

All entries will be placed online in the "Champ Sightings" photo gallery and will be automatically qualified to win one of the three prizes that will be award at the end of the 2006 season. The grand prize will be two General Admission tickets for the 2007 season, while second place is a $100 spending spree at the Lake Monsters Locker Room Store and third place is an authentic Vermont Lake Monsters fitted cap.

Fans can send their photos to the team on-line via email or by mail to Vermont Lake Monsters, 1 Main Street Suite 4, Winooski, Vermont 05404.

Go here for more information and complete rules for the contest.

The "Champ Sightings" contest has smaller money prizes than the Duel Masters™ 2005 Photo Contest, but the combination of the two now covers a universe of cryptids – Bigfoot, Yeti, Nessie, and now Champ.

Enjoy.
