Exclusive: Oglala Police Scanner Bigfoot Audio

Posted by: Loren Coleman on August 13th, 2006

Since mid-July, 2006, in and around the Oglala Sioux Pine Ridge Reservation, close encounters and sightings (see link below) have been occurring with a Bigfoot. Local police have routinely responded and sometimes seen the tall hairy hominid. You have been able to follow here an on-going rundown on these almost realtime reports, not carried by any other media outlet. Now, Cryptomundo brings you the first audio of a recent dispatch of such a call.

On August 11, 2006, Donovan Lone Hill recorded this Pine Ridge Reservation law enforcement scanner exchange and forwarded it to be posted here. You can clearly hear (and do listen all the way to the end of the audio) that a police woman is describing the sighting of a hunchbacked Bigfoot.

The posture of the reported Bigfoot, slightly hunched over, giving the appearance of having a hunchback, is not uncommon. You will hear on the audio what the eyewitness at first thinks this is, then changes their own mind to clarify that it seems to be the hunched over appearance of the Bigfoot. The audio is clear and matter-of-fact, as one would expect from a law enforcement agency. But unbelievably, they are describing the Bigfoot that has been seen in the Pine Ridge area for some weeks now.

From August 12, 2006, there is also a new report of a woman seeing something “tall and dark” going behind the post office in Kyle, South Dakota, which is 45 to 50 miles northeast of Pine Ridge. It was then reported that it was observed by a radio tower transmitter west of Kyle on a hilltop. At this time, it is unknown if officers saw anything during that incident.

Past recent accounts from the Oglala Nation’s South Dakota location can be reviewed by clicking and reading these Cryptomundo reports and updates.

If the sightings are getting that regular and predictable perhaps some researchers within driving distance of the area should try to bring some equipment and see if they can arrange a ride-along. (Infrared would come in handy.)

Or, if that isn’t an option, use their own car and set up a cell phone relay with someone with a scanner. (It’s illegal in many states to have a scanner in your car.)

  2. sschaper responds:

The rez is a political entity separate from the States of Nebraska and SD, if I’m not mistaken.

Where are Marlin Perkins and Steve Irwin when you need them? 🙂

  3. sschaper responds:

Isn’t Oglala on I-80 and US 34, quite a bit south of Pine Ridge, being on the southern end of the Sand Hills? That is a lot of extremely dry, treeless, short-grass prairie for it to cross down from the Pine Ridge country. Or is there another, probably much smaller, Oglala in SD?

  4. bill green responds:

This is definitely a very interesting police radio scanner report of a sasquatch creature. I hope we hear more police reports like this one about sasquatch encounters.

  5. Berkastler responds:

I’m at a loss as to why no one from the BRFO or any other bigfoot hunting organization isn’t there. Any guesses?

  6. lastensugle responds:

I was just about to ask the same thing. With all the sightings and stories from the area, I’m surprised researchers haven’t been there for a week or more.

  7. rozz_b responds:

    SSchaper
Yes there is a very much smaller district on the Pine Ridge reservation called Oglala. Its about 10 or 15 miles (one or the other) west of the town of Pine Ridge. When you travel to the rez you usually pass through Oglala first… After you reach it the area starts to get wooded. Trees and more larger vegetation emerge.

Oh by the way, I have been trying to do my part… Everytime I travel that way I take my video camera. I haven’t experienced anything thus far. Last night I just got back from Porcupine. Nothing but deer.

You know there was supposed to be a Pow Wow at Wounded Knee this past Fri. (Aug. 11). They canceled it… strange..? Without knowing we did go and nothing was going on. We ended up leaving at dusk… again lots of deer on the trip home.

  8. eyeofnewt responds:

Curiously, recent posts from a local to the various newsgroups state categorically that there has been no coverage of anything resembling local BF sightings in the area since this story “broke.” Things that make you go, “Hmmmmm.”

  9. madman responds:

very interesting. did this sighting take place before or after the supposed big foot shooting?

  10. moregon responds:

shovethenos I know of at least two researchers in the area already working on this. Hopefully at least one of them will find some evidence to support or disprove the claims we are hearing.

sschaper as far as your comment about Marlin Perkins, ummm considering he’s dead unless you know a good medium I don’t think he’s going to be much help. 😉

  11. Loren Coleman responds:

Absence of news reports does not mean absence of police involvement, local sightings, and resident knowledge. Besides, as reported on Cryptomundo earlier, the South Dakota School of Mining responded to one of my blogs about the rumored shooting of a Bigfoot, with a press release that was mentioned in the Rapid City newspaper.

Also, as noted in an earlier posting on this topic, there is at least one BFRO investigative team in the area.

  12. shadowparks responds:

don’t the police there carry video equipment? You would think at least one of these cops would have someting on video by now. Sounds like a good episode for “cops.” LOL

  13. Mnynames responds:

The shooting was supposed to have taken place on August 1, placing this afterwards, actually just this past friday.

  14. bill green responds:

I hope one day that police officiers do get a sasquatch creature on film when they are doing a police report about a sasquatch encounter.

  15. Ole Bub responds:

    Patience Folks…

I have higher confidence in the Tribal police reports than the Department of the Interior, BIA, BLM and MMS…JMHO

    seeing is believing…

    ole bub and the dawgs

  16. crypto-kid responds:

Interesting find. If you guys go to bfro and check sightings by regions, find your way to South Dakota. You will see a few reports.

Check out Sept 1998, Shannon County (Pine Ridge and Oglala). It seems as if this “hunch-backed bigfoot” is no stranger. Could it be the same bigfoot? A migrating Bigfoot that calls this area home?

  17. UKCryptid responds:

I’ve been lurking around for some time now but this one inspired me to register 🙂 Many animals, particularly primates carry their young around either on the chest or back. I was wondering what other peoples thoughts were on the possibility that due to ‘not all bigfeet’ having hunched backs, that maybe these individuals could be carrying young in a similar way perhaps?

    Just my 2 pennies 🙂

  18. P.S.Anderson responds:

An interview with the officer on the scene would be interesting. What was the attitude of the witness’s who called the police? Was there any physical evidence at the scene? Hopefully not a continuation of the shooting hoax. Should be fun to see how this one turns out. Peace to the Big People.

  19. toddmazz responds:

Can anyone tell me more about the shooting or direct me to a site with more information about this shooting? Was a sasquatch shot? If so, was a body recovered or what was the result?

  20. Craig Woolheater responds:

    toddmazz,

Here is where Loren originally reported on Cryptomundo.

And here is the followup that Loren posted.

  21. Garlictown responds:

PS Anderson: Good point – I always ask myself this question, why would anybody call the Police to investigate unless they have a real reason to call for help. Even if it is a tall homeless person wandering around with a back-pack, they usually are seen by someone under normal conditions. They’ll be looking for food, water and handouts to get by, they’ll be hungry on a daily basis.

This sighting leaves one to wonder why the reporting party called in the first place, were they fearful? And was there a reasonable cause for concern. I believe they saw something strange – I’m always amazed at how the Police Officer, and what seems obvious in this case, per the radio call, never went behind the last area it was seen, looking for footprints – kinda like “Well, I couldn’t see it from my Patrol car window, it ain’t there, man.” 10-98.

Maybe BFRO could ask the local PD’s to start looking a little better for evidence, taking the presumption it’s a homeless wanderer, maybe they’ll find some tracks.

  22. DAVEINCAPS responds:

My wife’s cousin lives out in the sticks near Kyle. The other day she told me she saw a Bigfoot a couple months ago.

  23. dave61 responds:

Sightings of bigfoot seem to be frequent in and around indian reservations. I’m currently involved as an assistant to a scientist-tracker researching this creature in the Navajo + Apache Rez, and interviews/reports from locals is overwhelming. I’m seeing evidence of something large and extremely intelligent roaming the mountains and river valleys of the Rez. My friend I’m assisting is adamant it’s a simple primate-ape, but after some time in the research, I’m having second thoughts about this creature. The local Native Americans call it a “magic man”. It seems to make appearances in certain areas, and disappear at will. My research friend does not believe this, but I’m not going to criticize, since none of us know what this “entity” really is. I do believe the Sioux Tribe is experiencing this creature, like so many others in the Reservations across the US.

  24. harpua responds:

If anyone wants to hear them or hopefully see one, they should be camped out near Wind Cave…

  25. Garlictown responds:

    Where is “Wind cave”?

  26. Dark-Obsessor responds:

I doubt the authenticity of this very much; the ‘woman’ doesn’t at all sound surprised, or able to give a description of what she ‘saw.’

    So, yeah: not exactly evidence.

  27. cante win responds:

There have been many bigfoot stories on the pineridge indian rez since i was growing up. I’ve never seen it before, but heard some strange screams at night, now this comes along.

Sorry. Comments have been closed.
