You Are Cryptomundo
Posted by: Loren Coleman on September 12th, 2007
Our secret is out. Cryptomundo is fun and visited by people that enjoy exploring the edge.
You are adventurers. You are explorers. You are romantic zoologists. You are cryptozoologists. And none of us deny it.
It is always intriguing to read of my pursuit from others’ points of view, which can give me some interesting global insights.
At Chewing Pixels, in the blog “Cryptozoology and Nintendo,” the observer writes about Cryptomundo:
This mixture of content ensnares the reader by effectively holding the plausible and the mostly implausible in delicate tension – acceptable because both the announcement of the discovery of a new type of fish and a story of a boy being carried of by a giant bird falls under the same generic banner: cryptozoology.
In every post there’s a sense of excitement that must mirror something of what the great explorers felt 400 years ago when cataloguing the new flora and fauna discovered on their pioneering travels.
I guess that is my goal: To bring a little excitement, which I sense is still out there in the natural world to your electronic door everyday, to acknowledge the wonders of cryptozoology merging into zoology, in an era of discovery I still see.
I also know excitement can be experienced without the blood and gore of an R-rated movie or the sex and sleaze of an entertainment television news program. At least, that’s the objective, although, of course, we live in times where sex, death, war, and taxes do impact us all. I do not shy away from those realities either. But I’m here about the animals, first and foremost, especially the ones that remain to be discovered or have just been found, as well as the people who should be credited with doing the work.
So thank you all for liking Cryptomundo, for being Cryptomundo, and as I sign some of my classic books, “Enjoy the Quest.”
About Loren Coleman
Loren Coleman is one of the world’s leading cryptozoologists, some say “the” leading living cryptozoologist. Certainly, he is acknowledged as the current living American researcher and writer who has most popularized cryptozoology in the late 20th and early 21st centuries.
Starting his fieldwork and investigations in 1960, after traveling and trekking extensively in pursuit of cryptozoological mysteries, Coleman began writing to share his experiences in 1969. An honorary member of Ivan T. Sanderson’s Society for the Investigation of the Unexplained in the 1970s, Coleman has been bestowed with similar honorary memberships of the North Idaho College Cryptozoology Club in 1983, and in subsequent years, that of the British Columbia Scientific Cryptozoology Club, CryptoSafari International, and other international organizations. He was also a Life Member and Benefactor of the International Society of Cryptozoology (now-defunct).
Loren Coleman’s daily blog, as a member of the Cryptomundo Team, served as an ongoing avenue of communication for the ever-growing body of cryptozoo news from 2005 through 2013. He returned as an infrequent contributor beginning Halloween week of 2015.
Coleman is the founder in 2003, and current director of the International Cryptozoology Museum in Portland, Maine.
Thank you for what you do Loren! Long Live Cryptomundo! I visit this site daily and would go crazy if I was unable to. It’s part of my daily routine.
Best to all in their love, passion, and efforts in cryptozoology!
hey loren & everyone i think cryptomundo is a great blog. thanks bill green 🙂
Thanks for giving us this place to meet, talk, and learn, Loren.
Cerroil- I ditto that.
Thanks for helping create this site Loren. It is that spirit of adventure which is so addictive. I know I for one live vicariously through the adventures that so many experience and discuss here. I’d love nothing more than to take back-country hikes exploring leads on my own, but my life choices have me in a more urban setting very often.
Thanks Loren, your efforts are hugely appreciated! I too make it a point to swing by here on a daily basis to see what mysteries await… easily one of the classiest and most legitimate cryptosites on the Internets.
BTW, any chance of an interactive forum showing up in here anytime soon? Could make for some great discussion and the chance to develop and further friendships and networking. Just a thought… 😀
Vive le Cryptomundo!
ARRIBA CRYPTOMUNDO!!! 🙂
Thank you all for the comments.
An interactive forum? Well, this one certainly goes in that direction sometimes, but, no, don’t look for that specifically here. I know we have our hands full trying to keep this informative and up-to-date with breaking stories, so adding another level of interaction is not in the cards for me. The comment section alone takes time away from digging for news and doing some analysis on this free access site. As you can imagine, the amount of time and work it takes to keep the focus on cryptozoo news is more than is apparent.
As they say, this is a labor of love.
Wow, Kool photos, specially the 2nd one, Not one speck of gray! (Just teasing, Loren) You, Craig and company are the best. This site is very informative, no matter what one believes or how one feels about a topic. Take the BIG ONES for instance, I knew there have been reports and encounters, but I had no Idea how many until I came across this site. There have been some pretty convincing stories of encounters and sightings on this site I have to say. Anyway, CRYPTOMUNDO ROCKs. It’s like my coffee in the morning and throughout the day. Keep up the great work you guys are awesome!
Keep up the good work Loren. I love this site!
I work all day with autistic children, a stressful and energy consuming occupation. Sometimes I just need to disappear into my den and chill. I usually start by knocking the top of a beer and logging on to Cryptomundo. I dream of one day visiting America, Ozzy Land and other parts of the world and doing a little crypto hunting myself (with cameras, not guns, obviously)
I love the insights, intelligence and humour of my fellow bloggers, and always enjoy the badinage, especially when a really AWFUL YouTube video clip is posted.
You’re alright by me, keep it up.
John
I have always held an interest for Cryptozoology. Cryptomundo gives people like me the chance to know what has happened in the past, present, and future in the field. This is one of my favorite sites to be at. Thanks for all the knowledge and openmindness. I am proud to be a part of this amazing site, and ya’ll are always improving. Cryptomundo for LIFE!!!
YEY for Cryptomundo! I make it a point to swing by daily. 🙂 Thanks for all your work.
Who are the other people pictured, btw?
I read Cryptomundo every day. It is a part of my daily rutine and would like to know if Loren has any sites that are his favorites.
Just stopped in to say, I agree with what everybody else has summed up so eloquently about our favorite crypto-site.
For me it began with those wonderful books that I never tire of reading. This fabulous website encapsulates all the awe and mesmerising wonder that is crptozoology. May it continue to flourish.
I love this site and visit several times daily. There’s always something new to read when I check and the articles posted are interesting, varied and highly informative. It’s simply the best cryptozoology site around and the dedication shown to the subject matter here is remarkable. Thank you and may Cryptomundo.com continue to go from strength to strength for years to come.
You’re a star Loren. Bless you and your great site.
I too have a stressful job. Cryptomundo is an escape for me. I have never posted here before, but I wanted to give my thanks to Loren and all of you! I enjoy checking in here daily.
Oh yeah… I’m 47 now and my parents couldn’t keep me out of the woods when I was a kid looking for Bigfoot. That still holds true for today! LOL
