Cryptomundo Swag
Posted by: Craig Woolheater on January 31st, 2011
We here at Cryptomundo are working on creating some Cryptomundo merchandise for sale.
The readers of Cryptomundo have been clamoring for years for some Cryptomundo merch, and we have listened.
Steve Busti, owner of the Museum of the Weird in Austin, TX has created a few designs that I wanted to get reader input on.
What do you, the Cryptomundo reader, think of the following designs?
Would you buy a tee shirt with these designs on them?
The designs would likely be one color, glow in the dark, on solid, dark color tee shirts.
About Craig Woolheater
Co-founder of Cryptomundo in 2005.
I have appeared in or contributed to the following TV programs, documentaries and films:
OLN's Mysterious Encounters: "Caddo Critter", Southern Fried Bigfoot, Travel Channel's Weird Travels: "Bigfoot", History Channel's MonsterQuest: "Swamp Stalker", The Wild Man of the Navidad, Destination America's Monsters and Mysteries in America: Texas Terror - Lake Worth Monster, Animal Planet's Finding Bigfoot: Return to Boggy Creek and Beast of the Bayou.
I like them. Perfect for a t-shirt. You should do designs with other cryptids too, like Chupacabra and the Jersey Devil.
Loren – those are excellent!
May I also suggest automobile window decals and coffee mugs?
Just tell me how to purchase them.
I am very picky and I love those designs!
Yep, I would definitely purchase one or two.
Steve did a great job on the design. He has a real talent there!
Auto window decals would be awesome. And I only have one shirt that glows in the dark, so my wife would really like it if I got another 😉
Those designs are very nice.
I am a t shirt designer and wouldn’t mind offering my services free of charge also.
I had previously done a ‘living dinosaurs’ t shirt featuring Kongomato and Mokele Mbembe but never printed it.
Yes, will buy.
Nice. I’d buy something.
Yes, love the designs. Partial to Nessie, tho. Don’t forget BUMPER STICKERS.
Great designs by Steve! In addition to T-shirts with the images, I’d also suggest refrigerator magnets, much like the really neat-looking ones sold at Steve’s Museum of the Weird in Austin.
It’s a good concept. I’m not too crazy about the typography, though —particularly the one used in the phrase “It’s a cryptid world.”
Maybe something more abstract and “vectorized” than just a B&W images of Patty and the Surgeon photograph?
How about something to reinforce the idea that this IS indeed a Cryptid world? Something like a Google map of the entire world, using different icons to pinpoint the location of cryptid reports? If we only use Patty and Nessie, debunkers will always attack us for sticking to the glories of past decades. Cryptozoology should be viewed as a living and dynamic field.
The chart Loren frequently uses to show the different sizes and heights between hominins is also a good idea for a T-Shirt —in a more abstract and simplified way, though.
I’m sorry if I sound too critic — I *am* a (industrial) designer, after all. 😉
Will buy assuming they come in fat people sizes. 3X would be fantastic, 2X good enough to buy.
Yes! Please do get enough 2X and larger, and maybe also some small enough for younger fans?
If you do a coffee mug, you could do the kind where part of the design disappears when you put hot liquid in?
Something other than a t-shirt is necessary, because some of us cannot flaunt our interests by wearing a t-shirt, so need something a little smaller but just as emphatic in design.
Hope this makes sense–on the second week of a flu that has turned into infections, and not everything seems right these days.
Yeah, I’d buy a t-shirt…the designs are good.
Love the “O” in the middle! Well done.
Also, baseball caps.
Very, very nice. I’d buy something.
It does bring up something I am curious about.
I see versions of images from the P-G film everywhere, including T-shirts and so forth on CafePress.
What’s the copyright rule?
Frame 352 of the Patterson-Gimlin film is public domain.
The artistic interpretation used in the logo is based off of frame 352 of the film.
Both look great to me. Though is using the infamous surgeon photo a good idea since it was proven to be fake? Maybe it doesn’t matter, because it is a very iconic photo. But I know I’d be a bit averse to wearing a faked Nessie photo to promote Cryptomundo and Cryptozoology.
i agree with the red_pill_junkie,
the “its a cryptid world” needs more of that oldies, BW movie feel to it. i also agree with crowmagnumman, using that known hoax one like that nessie photo specifically might not the best idea, but i could be wrong. if i may be so bold as to suggest the texas chupacabra police cam video from a few years ago, and/or maybe the thylacine
Actually the myth of the surgeon’s photo being faked is just that. There was supposedly a death bed confession, but that was later said to have also been fake. So there you go.
Hmm. Odd, then, that I was so sure it had been proven a fake. I’ll have to look into this again.
springheeledjack/crowmagnumman:
BAD BOYS! OFF TOPIC!
So let’s go! I admit to first seeing the surgeon’s photo when a small child and thinking: that looks like a toy brontosaurus in a bathtub. Still does.
Also admit to hearing the deathbed-confession tale and thinking it true. But admitting lake monsters aren’t my thing.
Either way: icon, and needs to be on stuff! And how ’bout a coelacanth or a saola?
Or a bull kouprey (with the trick-exploding-cigar horns)? I’d say that if you can’t find a cow any more than that, searching for decades, it’s close enough for me. As with the sasquatch: it’s only a cryptid because people DO see it.
And now we’ve covered those that are squeamish about hoaxes or rumors. 😉
Alright fine…stay on topic. Sheesh. How about a debunker’s t-shirt…
It can just be a blank shirt that says, “Mundo.”
AND, just because I can’t resist taking the bait,…yeah, never thought the Surgeon’s photo really went along with the other sightings, but I just let that one take its course (it does look…just odd to me—see, that’s a subjective statement). Whether it’s real or not, doesn’t debunk the rest of it. I’d STILL buy a shirt with the iconic logo, BECA– USE, it is the icon for Nessie, like it or not.
Most of the readers got it. Those two images are iconic in cryptozoology.
We will be planning new designs quarterly more than likely, featuring other cryptids and other artists.
If you are an artist who is a fan of Cryptomundo, please feel free to submit a design for consideration.
Piggyback on shj’s suggestion:
The cryptid side (front) is labeled: PROPONENTS.
The Mundo (back) side is labeled: SCOFTICS.
Design: a team effort…
And yeah, for any who doubted it: an icon is an icon, and does nothing for, or to, the body of evidence. Search on.
