Provo Canyon Bigfoot Witness Speaks
Posted by: Craig Woolheater on November 4th, 2012
Local station Fox 13 News speaks to youtuber Beard Card regarding his video of a purported Bigfoot sighting encounter in Provo Canyon early last week.
A Bigfoot sighting in Provo Canyon?
PROVO CANYON, Utah – A Utah man camping in Provo Canyon caught sight of a black creature in the woods.
The video’s description, named “Provo Canyon Bigfood Encounter?” on YouTube, says the man was camping near Squaw Peak and Little Rock Canyon Overlook when they saw deer up on the hill.
On their way up, the spotted what appeared to be a bear. But when “the monster stood up and looked right at us,” they fled.
“We had actually been standing there for awhile. We had thought it was a bear up to that point but when it stood up and looked at us it was just massive animal,” said the video’s uploader, who goes by the name Bear Card on YouTube. “We don’t know what it was. I mean none of us really believe in Bigfoot but we’ve talked about it over and over again since then. It happened on Monday and all of us are positive that thing wasn’t a bear.”
The original video posted to youtube:
We went camping in Provo Canyon (near Squaw Peak and Little Rock Canyon Overlook) and saw some deer up on a hill that we wanted to get a closer look at. On our way up, we thought we saw a bear, until the monster stood up and looked right at us. We ran straight to the car after that, leaving our tent and everything behind. It’s probably all still up there.
We have lots of other videos from our camping trip that day that we’ll post soon, including the deer and hiking up towards them.Published on Oct 30, 2012 by Beard Card

To me, that is so clearly a black bear.
I doubt it. Even from so far away, it’s obvious that the creature’s body proportion to its head is much different from a black bear. The creature looks almost human. A large, furry, misshapen human that is.
Could be a bear, could be a bigfoot, could be a guy in a suit, not enough footage to tell one way or the other.
I thought that last week was the start of deer season.
I would not want to be out in the woods during deer season.
At first it could be a bear but when it gets up and moves away in an upright stance with its right arm dangling by its side it is obviously not a bear. you can also see what looks like the right hand in a cupped position and the position of the head on the shoulders etc. are all very compelling.
There’s definitely not enough steady video of the boy standin’. Several local woodsmen have told me that Bigfoots like to sit or lie down when not actively moving. That could be another reason for Bigfoot’s scarcity.
He said some things that were very telling in the phone interview that leads me to believe he is lying.
“Tons of hunters up there”? Well, camping in an area with “tons of hunters” then, “following deer to take some pictures”, well, that’s a great way to get accidentally shot.
“We actually went back up there to see if any of our camping stuff was still there”, “we actually went back up to that spot”?
“We had my brother hike up there and stand up there in the same spot”? “My brother is probably about 6 feet and compared to him it was about 2 or 3 feet taller than him”? But no photo’s because it was getting too dark?
In my opinion this guy is lying about a hoax he created.
Reasons:
1 No one hikes following deer with “tons of hunters around”
2 Any animals that frequents areas with “tons of hunters” would have been shot and killed many times before…the lack of dead bigfoot animals would lead people to believe they avoid areas with regular hunting
3 Video was typical few seconds of footage and nothing after they leave the trail, back at the campsite, or in the car home. Where is the need for such panic and no effort to record the moment
4 Leaving camping “stuff” behind but went back “Wednesday night” then claimed “We wanted to take some pictures but it was too dark”, then he claimed his brother “hiked up to the same spot”. His story loses credibility there when he claims it was too dark for photos but enough light for his brother to hike up to the same spot and they could see that “it” was 2 or 3 feet bigger than his brother
5 A few seconds of bad video and his 15 minutes of fame has begun. I have seen this video on 7 different sites already…this attention is what these hoaxers do this for
The more I look into the subject of a Bigfoot type animal, the more I believe it is possible it may exist…but these types of videos in my opinion are bored kids looking for attention
I tend to agree with wolfatrest.
Could be a bear, could be a bigfoot, could be a guy in a suit, not enough footage to tell one way or the other.
Here’s my whole thing about this video, bigfoot (and cryptozoology) in general:
extraordinary claims require extraordinary proof.
After watching it several times it looks to me to be a person wearing several layers of bulky clothing with the top layer a black overcoat with a hood.
There is no “arm” clearly visible. What you’re seeing are the leaves of a plant blocking out part of the image, which makes it appear at first glance that part of it is separate i.e. armlike. Once you know what to look for, you can see it on these videos, but track down an extreme zoom, and it’s even more obvious. And the only “head” on the creature is the one you want to see. Realize that the thing is all broken up behind foliage, so when it shifts position . . . distortion. I don’t know what it is, but the bigfoot conclusion is certainly the least plausible conclusion to jump to.
Go study pictures of standing bears. They have an extremely long neck-the arms tend to look short and are in front of the body for the most part, and the ears and head are very easily identified as a bear. This thing looks to have very wide shoulders and a short neck and only a little bit of the head pokes up before we get ground clutter/running footage.
Could be a bear, but from what we have to look at-it looks more Bigfoot when standing up.
OR it could be a person in an outfit of some kind.
We won’t know until and if a hoaxer comes forward, but then again many have tried to claim responsibility for the Patterson creature and have been found to be dubious characters themselves.
I don’t think you’re an obvious liar if you go to a location and start running out of light so don’t take pictures.
That happened to me two weeks ago and I had to stop filming a scene for a film I’m making.
Nothing much to be gleaned from the footage. In this case, we can only base our assumptions and come to useful conclusions on the reactions/ behavior of the men.
“the monster stood up and looked right at us,”… anybody else miss this part? I only ever see its back as it gets up and moves away. Sounds like an embellishment in order to dramatize the account.
It seems odd to me that they lose it because the figure starts to move away from them. Bears can run at 30-40 mph and maul people fairly regularly, wouldn’t take it but a few seconds to reach them, downhill of it as they are. When they supposedly think it’s a bear they are pretty calm about it, all of a sudden they are losing their minds because it’s a Sasquatch? Possibly mark it up to fear of the unknown… but “Oh, look it’s a bear… lalalalala… oh, wait it’s a Sasquatch… aaaaaaaaah!!!!”… I’m not buying it.
