Bigfoot Conferences
Posted by: Rick Noll on October 12th, 2005
I am going to be attending the 2005 TBRC conference. I will be speaking and videoing at the event. I am also going to try and post daily logs from it as well, with pictures of course. Craig and company put on a great show, one of the best I have ever been too. I hope I see quite a few of my friends there… maybe even a reader or two of this blog.
I had a great time there last year and I thought my schedule was full for that one. This year’s will be even fuller for me.
The first conference on the subject I ever went to also happened to be the first conference on the subject… the 1978 UBC (University of British Columbia), held on campus in Vancouver, B.C. The conference was star studded with academia. Scientists, for the most part though, spoke about the cultural significance and ramifications of the phenomena. That part was a little disappointing.
There were two excellent books produced from the proceedings:
Rene Dahinden, John Green, Bob Gimlin, Bob Titmus, Grover Krantz, Barbara Butler/Wasson, Tony Healy, Bob Walls, Bruce Bonney, Al Berry, Carleton Coon, Peter Matthiessen and Peter Byrne were among the group attending. Bob Walls and I roomed together during the event.
Many of the nights were spent in a campus pub… yeah they had one there. I met up with several writers, both newspaper and magazine. I will post one of the articles from that time concerning the conference in two posts… But my fondest memories come from right after the conference. More on that later… OK, I’ll give ya a hint… The "White film" and Rene draped over the hood of my truck like a hunters deer or elk being transported home.
About Rick Noll
Rick Noll has been actively searching for the Sasquatch since 1969 and continues his pursuit with extended field trips into the Pacific Northwest's most remote regions. Rick has worked with Peter Byrne, RenΓ© Dahinden, Grover Krantz, John Green, Jeff Meldrum and the BFRO during all this. He helped with many documentaries on the subject including Animal X: The Skookum Expedition and Sasquatch: Legend Meets Science.
What has always bothered me most about this whole thing ((the bigfoot Phenom))
Is that the big shots of the field Rene Dahinden, John Green, Bob Titmus, Grover Krantz, ((you)) never saw the darn thing.
Titmus from a far distance but it was very far from what I read in Krantz’s book.
Al berry didn’t see it, although I hope the sierra audio-tapes are genuine.
Byrnes niether if I’m correct.
Had to be quite the posse at that event though.
Dahinden spent all that time out there in the forest and to the best of my knowledge he never saw it. But every other Tom, Dick and Harry on these TV specials happen to take a hike one day and ….here there they are on TV…
“..and all of a sudden there’s friggin sasquatch big as day, I never thought about Bigfoot before and suddenly I’m face to face with it”
“Trish and I bed down in our tent, and we hear a rustle, a pine cone bounces off our tent I peek outside and holy Toledo, this big hairy upright gorilla..”
etc etc
I want Meldrum or you to see one.
Somehow for me …I’d be fully covinced instead of a believer.
I’m not sure what your ahem… “not sure” encounter was.
But I’m here for the long haul. keep the stories coming, I’m enjoying the pace.
..Holy crud I was sitting on my foot.
I’m friggin trapped at my computer.
I’d love to see a video of bigfoot with a wicked case of pins and needles.
This 2005 Conference in Jefferson Texas, will be my first :)I do hope its as memorable as yours, and from what I have heard so far Im sure it will be. π I am looking forward to your presentation.
I too often think about the researchers that have devoted their entire lives to this search – taken all the ridicule, the harsh weather etc. and never saw this animal. But their conviction is what speaks volumes to people like me.
Keep looking – keep searching π
Im sure you dont need me to tell you that though π
