Bohbot tracks Bigfoot

MONTREAL — The producer of Bigfoot’s Reflection says he was sure of the creature’s existence after wrapping the documentary in the wilds of British Columbia and Washington State earlier this year.

The hour-long doc, which will be broadcast on Space in May, takes a fair-minded look at Bigfoot hunters. That is, people who are out to prove that the big guy exists.

“They make a good case. And there is lots of deep dark forest out there,” Frederic Bohbot tells Playback Daily.

Bohbot’s film, which is directed by Evan Beloff, follows the new generation of Bigfoot hunters, who are more techno savvy and scientifically rigorous than earlier pursuers of the lumbering hairy creature — also known in various parts of the world as Yeti, the Abominable Snowman and Sasquatch.

The HD film, shot for $160,000, takes place in North American Bigfoot country: B.C.’s Harrison Hot Springs and the Yakima Indian Reserve in Washington.

Bohbot’s team caught up with wildlife biologists, ecologists and forestry people who are convinced that Yeti is alive and well and strolling through the bush on Canada’s west coast.

“Most films make fun of these people, but we are trying to take a serious look at their obsession. In the end, this is a film about human obsessions,” says Bohbot, founder of Bunbury Films, which is coproducing Bigfoot’s Reflection with Ontic Media. “These people are not lying. Whether he exists or not, they believe in what they are saying. I think that’s the most extraordinary part.”Patricia Bailey

Bigfoot’s Reflection

– In production with Space The Imagination Station

Bigfoot’s Reflection is an hour long POV documentary that will focus firmly on how the quest for an ephemeral monster changes the monster hunter, for good or ill. Though there is sufficient evidence to support the possibility of Bigfoot, final proof eludes the hunter. Today a younger generation of Bigfoot hunters is strapping on their gear, saddling up, and setting out to ride a new wave of sightings. The torch is being passed from the grand old men who founded this field, to a more techno-savvy and cyber friendly generation. In the late 1990’s the field of Bigfoot research faded as prominent hunters died or retired with almost nothing but faith to show for their efforts. But with the predominance of the internet, and recent major stories out of Manitoba and the Yukon, things have been heating up. But has anything really changed? Will this time be any different?

  1. MBFH responds:

Thanks for this Craig – it highlights an issue that grates with me quite a bit. How can these guys raise $160,000 to produce a film where they just go and interview people who have an interest in Bigfoot but researchers who want to get out there and study and collect evidence struggle to get funding.

It’s a mixed up world we live in.

    Good morning Cryptos….

An interesting subject…cyber tools and networking have taken amateur research to a new level of activity, intensity, investment and cooperation.

The North American Bigfoot forum is a great example of independent researchers sharing ideas and information in a cooperative manner…JMHO

    A new mantra is emerging…”it’s about them…not us”…JMHO

The affordability of digital gadgets makes digital documentation inevitable…many independent researchers have personal investments of tens of thousands of dollars in gear and equipment.

One 8 hour period this week revealed 35 distinct screams/howls/vocalizations from a research area in the ArklaTexhoma region… screening and editing of that digital recording will take many hours of painstaking analysis.

United we prosper…divided we are little more than “bait”…the only thing stranger than Sasquatch…are the politics of Sasquatchery…JMHO

Has anyone heard from Rick Noll….lately?

    No Bucks…No Bigfoot…

hey craig & everyone this new documentary about bigfoot sounds very interesting indeed. but when is it comeing out on dvd. thanks bill 🙂

  4. MBFH responds:

Ole Bub, are there plan to make the results of the recordings publicly available once they’ve been screened and edited?

  5. Ole Bub responds:

    MBFH and fellow Cryptos….

All the research threads at North American Bigfoot Forum are available for review…the forum is comprised primarily of independent researchers and has very specific criteria for participation…if you have an axe to grind…go somewhere else and cut some firewood.

Most of the researchers have seen or had encounters with these wondrous creatures…we don’t debate their existence…we know they exist…we share our collective knowledge in a cooperative spirit.

    live and let live…

    Ole bub:

You’re right. And it’s sad. Although it doesn’t have to be.

We’ve spent very little time on this site talking about what may be the biggest stumbling block in the pursuit of a documented species: internecine warfare among the searchers.

Maybe I need to spend some time on North American Bigfoot. Maybe there’s hope.

If the amateurs don’t cooperate amongst themselves…what’s the chance of their working with professionals? And vice versa?

  7. silvereagle responds:

Also coming out this year is Switzerland’s take on the bigfoot phenomenon. In keeping with their historical neutrality, they present all sides of this controversial subject. It is due to hit European Film Festivals this summer. It is described as follows:

“A Swiss couple and their child go to the pacific Northwest to find out if a friend’s audio recording of Bigfoot is real. Along the way they meet with america’s top Sasquatch researchers: each presenting their cases for the existence of Sasquatch.”
