Bigger Than Hogzilla?

Jamison Stone, 11, poses with a wild pig he killed near Delta, Ala. (AP)

An 11-year-old Alabama boy used a pistol to kill a wild hog that just may be the biggest pig ever found.

Jamison Stone’s father says the hog his son killed weighed a 1,051 pounds and measured 9-feet-4 from the tip of its snout to the base of its tail. Think hams as big as car tires.

If the claims are accurate, Jamison’s trophy boar would be bigger than Hogzilla, the famed wild hog that grew to seemingly mythical proportions after being killed in south Georgia in 2004.

Hogzilla originally was thought to weigh 1,000 pounds and measure 12 feet in length. National Geographic experts who unearthed its remains believe the animal actually weighed about 800 pounds and was 8 feet long.

Meh. I’m waiting on a Frogzilla story. I want to try a frog’s leg as big as a turkey drumstick…

There are several things at play here that makes this hog look truly gargantuan. One the photographer used an old trick of placing the animal close to the camera while having the hunter directly behind but several feet away from the animal. This ads a great deal of illusion of size to the animal. Two, you have a young boy whos size is already half of what a grown man’s would be so even a decent size hog would look huge. Three, this is a huge hog no doubt. But looking at the general size of this hog and the Yorkshire/Poland China characteristics I would say this hog was a domestic hog not long ago. Hogs are unique amongst all animals. Within 6 days of being in the wild they start to revert to a more primitive state. Their hair begins to grow longer and thicker and their tusks begin to grow. They quickly develope a shield over the shoulders and become wild. Within a year they will scantily resemble the domesticated animal they once were. I don’t know if this hog was really 1000 plus pounds. It is huge. Of all the true wild hogs I have caught or killed none have ever went over 500 lbs. And over the past 30 plus years I have hunted them I have taken hundreds and seen thousands. None of which even came close to this in a real wild environment.

Sorry folks, I didn’t notice the story was 6 years old when I posted it…

  6. cryptokellie responds:

Not only is it an old story but it’s been proven that the kid is positioned a ways back from the carcass making the hog look much larger than it actually is.

  7. Matt Wetzel via Facebook responds:

what kind of pistol was used? This hog looks enormous.

  8. David-Australia responds:

    Yeah, I was gonna say – I’ve seen that image before, ages ago . . . !

  9. hoodoorocket responds:

Never mind all that. What’s the meat gonna taste like on a ham the size of a car tire? Tough?

Anyway, with a dry rub and a long and low smoke you got yourself a party. Actually something that big, maybe do a gyros type rotisserie and slice off the outer layer as it cooks? I don’t really know.

Hmmm, never thought of the logistics of Flintstone level cuisine…

Feral Hogs now in Southern California….just saw on TV today! Sweeet!
