Georgia Bigfoot Video?

Posted by: Craig Woolheater on July 13th, 2006

Another new Bigfoot video has popped up. This one has been investigated by Sam Rich at GeorgiaBigfoot.com. Sam has given permission for this to be shared here on Cryptomundo. Apparently this one fell apart rather quickly. The video was initially claimed to have been made on July 5th, 2006 and the domain was registered on June 21st, 2006.

GeorgiaBigfoot.com was recently made privy to a video purporting to show a sasquatch that was filmed in Midland, Ga on the 5th of July, 06. Below is a copy of the email submitted to the site from "Jeff" through our Contact Form.

"A friend of mine claims he recently caught a bigfoot on tape in Midland, GA. He started a web site to get the public’s feedback at www.greyrockbigfoot.com"

A visit to greyrockbigfoot.com provided a single web page devoted to the video and alleged sighting. Because of the slow hosting service provided by that web site I have mirrored the written contents as well as the included video here for the conveyance of our visitors.

Below is the text from the website, www.greyrockbigfoot.com, as it originally appeared.

The Grey Rock Bigfoot Account

We would like to begin by telling you that we aren’t even sure if we believe in the creature that has come to be known as bigfoot. We are just two regular guys that happened to capture this strange footage. This is only our account of what happened on our fishing trip in Midland, Georgia on the evening of July 5th, 2006…..nothing more. We just thought this was something that couldn’t go without being shown to the public. More than anything, we want to get feedback from viewers to get their impressions. We welcome any emails you might want to send to give us your take on the events that happened that day.

First, we should tell you who we are.  We will only use our first names because we don’t want anyone to think we are out of our minds. Daniel was the one filming that day.  Daniel had purchased his video camera last year and never used it much. He decided to bring it along to capture what we hoped would be some trophy bass being caught. I(Will) was invited by Daniel to fish with him on Lake Swift that day. The fish had been biting pretty well that evening. We were fishing along the bank getting close to the boat dock pictured above. I had just reeled in a bass and was lifting it up onto the boat when the footage was taken. As you can see, my back was to the boat dock and Daniel was focused on the fish I had caught and didn’t even notice anything at the time. It was not until we were watching the video later that we saw the creature walking along the woods behind the boat dock. I’m not confident myself about what we caught on Daniel’s video camera……watch the video below and draw your own conclusions.

The first thing that became apparent was that our email from Jeff had originated from the same email listed on the web site ([email protected]). After replying to Jeff’s initial email with our findings he replied and stated that the reason for this was because he had created the web site for "Daniel" and "Will". The relevance of this bit of information will become more telling in a moment.

Back to the video though, as it is after all the heart of the matter. "Daniel" is filming "Will" from a boat on an unnamed lake as "Will" attempts to reel in a fish. In the background there is a largish clearing, dominated in the foreground by a boathouse or other type of building. As "Will" attempts to land his fish we see a dark figure passing from the left of the camera’s field of view to the right. Below are two stills of the figure that have been lightened and enhanced.

Some immediate observations of the dark figure were made.

1) Using the structure in the center of the clearing as a reference, the figure in question is well within the human range of height.

2) The limb ratio of the figure is also within the human range.

3) The stride of the figure does not appear to be any greater than that of a normal human covering the same terrain.

4) There is nothing distinguishable about the figure in regards to hair, facial characteristics, or other details.

Upon further study of the video it is obvious that the cameraman’s focus is on keeping the shoreline centered during the taping, despite the testimony on the web site stating that neither individual knew the figure was there until after reviewing the tape. The cameraman’s suppressed laughter as the dark figure first enters the clearing is also an indication that the cameraman most likely knew of the subject’s presence in the video during the taping.

Before delving any further into the video itself a brief investigation was conducted on the web site hosting it. The domain name greyrockbigfoot.com was registered on 21 June 06, a full two weeks before the alleged encounter took place. Here is a screen capture of the site as it was originally displayed.

Upon the public disclosure of this fact on a bigfoot forum, the web site was quickly altered to remove this information. Unfortunately for those involved in this hoax, not only were we able to acquire the screen capture showing the site in it’s original form, we were also able to save the original HTML archive as well. These facts prove damning in terms of any credibility the video might have possessed. This shows that not only was the website planned two weeks in advance of the alleged sighting, but the hoaxers involved were clearly watching the bigfoot community to see what response their video garnered. As soon as these facts were uncovered any and all investigation into the video itself ended.

For those of you who may have had a sighting or encountered other sasquatch related phenomenon we would continue to strongly encourage you to contact us. For those of you who would attempt such an obvious hoax we would like to give you a stern warning. There are those of us such as myself and others who investigate this subject seriously, and if you are attempting a hoax you will be found out and become the subject of articles such as this one. However, there are those out there who wish nothing more than to be the person to kill a sasquatch and bring in the body. If you’re contemplating donning a monkey suit and attempting to pass it off as a legitimate piece of evidence, then your best luck is that you run into someone like myself, and not the person looking to mount a sasquatch on their wall.

*Author’s Note* – It is not the normal policy of myself or anyone affiliated with GeorgiaBigfoot.com to share any type of personal information, email transcript, or other personal c
orrespondence with the public. All personal information and transcripts relating to legitimate enquires or investigations are kept strictly confidential. The purpose and justification of publishing the information contained in this article is in the hope that it will help to discourage future attempts at hoaxing.

    “Oh cool!”

  2. shadowparks responds:

i don’t know. It seems kind of fishy. LOL

  3. jonom responds:

Is it just me or is that fish dead?

  4. English Boy responds:

im not sure lol it like there acting or something but i think if they were acting im sure the camera man would of gone look over there something wierd, but maybe that would of been to obvious. When it first walks out it just walking normal then it looks like it trys putting the patterson walk on. I just not totaly convinced because it like there fishing and then all of a sudden somethings just walking past in the background.

  5. stonelk responds:

Seems like bigfoot videos are like cell phones, every body’s got one.

  6. shovethenos responds:

    Looks unlikely to be authentic:

    – The cameraman seems to be making sure that the path of the animal is in the frame rather than what he is supposed to be filming – the fish. On most fishing shows they follow the fish from the time he is visible until he is brought up into the boat – this is where a lot of the running and fighting occurs. In this case the cameraman doesn’t focus down on the fish being brought into the boat, he even lets the fisherman reach down and even go mostly out of the frame so he can keep the path of the creature in the frame.

    – The figure is so distant and blurry that not much can be said about it – except that it seems to be trying pretty hard to be casual, leisurely, and nonchalant. Even though the fisherman are clearly visible and can probably be heard, you don’t even see the figure watching them or reacting to them.

    Pretty skeptical of this one.

  7. Craig Woolheater responds:

I would advise our readers to read the entire entry, not just click on and watch the video.

Because of the facts as stated above by Sam Rich, this one is almost assuredly a hoax.

The domain was registered two weeks before the video was claimed to be shot. After this was publicly discussed on an internet forum, the date was taken off of the website that stated the video was shot on July 5th.

The fact that they had already registered the domain before the video
was shot pretty much seals this video’s fate as being a hoax.

  8. Scarfe responds:

For a hoax, it was a pretty good try. Aside from the obvious give away related to the domain registration, if the video had surfaced by itself, it probably would have been widely circulated because it doesn’t show too much so as to give away a man in a suit, but it shows just enough to intrigue casual viewers. It’s a subtle hoax.

  9. mike2k1 responds:

I told Sam the other day that this probably stemmed from the television interview he did for WTVM Columbus channel 9. Midland is located right North of Columbus. Got to wake up mighty early in the morning to fool the angry monkey. Good job Sam!

  10. dbard responds:

Craig, I have recieved a reply from [email protected] regarding the date of video vs. date of sighting debate. Would you like me to post it?

    DBard

  11. Craig Woolheater responds:

    dbard,

The debate is date of domain registration vs. initial claimed date of video.

Sure, go ahead and post the info.

  12. dbard responds:

Here is what they had to say:

“it’s funny what a bunch of jealous blog nerds can come up with as what they think is proof when actually all that happened was that the person building the website was told by the guy in the video that the video was taken on the 5th…..so the website builder assumes July 5th since he was building the site in that month when it was actually June 5th that the video was taken…..the domain was reserved by the guy in the video…..your so called proof is a joke.”

  13. bigsassy responds:

Well first of all that is not how you hook a bass. That fish was already on the line. Secondly, the camera doesnt even pan down to the fish because the camera man is filming the gorilla suit boy and not the fish. Then to cap it off he chuckles while filming. Be prepared for an onslaught of hoaxes thanks to sites like youtube. Video evidence is just not going to cut it anymore period.

  14. bigsassy responds:

Whoops. Sorry I didn’t read the full post. I was just so ticked off when I saw this yesterday I had to vent.

  15. timi_hendrix responds:

    Looks Staged

  16. planettom responds:

This is obviously a hoax. There is too much info revealing this one was set up. If I’m filming a friend catching fish, either he, or the fish will be in center of the shot, not the shoreline. And the date of registration for the website is a huge give away, and for them to remove the July5th date is just way to coincidental. I vote Hoax.

  17. rayrich responds:

I don’t know what’s funnier the dead fish or the jet black costume. Anyway my 78 year mother nice has a longer stride than that hoaxer. Will always have doubts when it comes to videos and all the hoaxes, but this one shouldn’t even be discussed.

  18. Jeremy_Wells responds:

    Fear the “blog nerds”!!!!!

  19. GeorgiaBigfoot responds:

So according to “Jeff” (who was the original respondent using the web site’s email address), the video was actually shot June 5th, despite the page clearly stating July 5th, and yet was still changed to show no date after that information became public? Perhaps next time they’ll wait until after they make the hoax to actually register the site promoting it. That, or us “nerds” are just reading way too much into this. Ever feel like a “blog nerd” Craig?

  20. Porkchop responds:

Everyone needs to take a camera fishing… you will catch fish within two seconds of recording… without casting. It won’t be a record size fish but who cares, I could catch fish that size all day and have fun, no problem…

Of course the fish will already be dead so be careful…

This is a good setup though, reminiscent of the Ivory Billed footage (that’s real, this is…)

    -Jealous Blog Reader

  21. dbard responds:

I think “The Jealous Blog Nerds” would be a great band name.

  22. Jeremy_Wells responds:

The account from “Jeff” about “jealous blog nerds” still doesn’t jibe.
The domain was registered June 21 correct? So why would the person working on the site assume the video was not shot until AFTER he began work on the website? (I mean, if I started working on a website that was a brand new domain at the end of June, and someone associated with the video to be featured told me the video was shot on “the 5th”, I wouldn’t assume they shot the video two weeks after the date they asked me to begin working on a website.)
Or maybe we’re dealing with MORE than just bigfoot here… Maybe we’re dealing with TIME TRAVELERS too!

  23. RocketSeason responds:

yeah, from the perfect timing of the catching of the fish right off of the bat, I knew this was a fake.

We all love fake bigfoot videos, but it takes away from serious investigation.

    -Matt

  24. larzker responds:

Even more spectacular then these two geniuses bigfoot discovery is their ability to catch comatose fish.

  25. wildphotographer responds:

Dead fish, tiny bigfoot, this thing was blown out of the water before it even got started.

  26. twblack responds:

Nice try fellows but a hoax is a hoax.

  27. Ouroborus Jay responds:

I think they might have messed with the audio a bit, the ‘chuckle’ is delayed now

  28. kamoeba responds:

Even without the website facts this footage is a hoax. The cameraman is heard at the very beginning of the tape telling the fisherman that the tape is now recording. Are we to believe that they had been fishing all day but the malnourished Bigfoot decided to casually stroll by in the background during the one brief moment while they were filming the guy reeling in a sleeping fish? This is one thing I’ve always wondered about the P/G film–had the two men been filming nature all day and happened to catch Bigfoot on film, or is their little piece of footage all they shot the whole time they were out that day?

I also find that people who get caught trying to pull off a hoax get quite defensive when caught. I think that’s a dead giveaway to the nature of their story right there. My dad and I witnessed 3 UFO’s in broad daylight about three years ago, but if someone were to prove to me that they weren’t extraterrestrial in origin I wouldn’t get mad about it. Last week someone had another “Bigfoot video” on that was quickly deemed a hoax by the posters here, and that person got his undies in a bunch about it, too. Enough with the fake movies already.

  29. smylex responds:

could be real, but I have doubts.

  30. Cryptonut responds:

Being an avid fisherman, the one thing I noticed was that the fish that was caught didn’t seem to fight that much (if at all). Granted it was small, and for bass held that way, after caught, they don’t move much, but the rod action seemed nonexistent while reeling in. Looking at it, it seems that the fish was caught earlier and was swimming around on the line for a while. I would love to see the “Big Guy” authenticated….but doesn’t look like the case here…..

  31. MrInspector responds:

Good eye, no one centers the background of a shot. This is just way too contrived.

  32. akkycat responds:

Sorry folks, this is a fake. All the acting is bad. Fisherman doesn’t have a poker face. The “bigfoot” appears too clearly in the video to be ignored. Even if it was an animal, it would have been noticed and the cameraman would try to zoom in on it. Besides, a real bigfoot – like most animals – would have noticed the humans and done something to avoid being seen or leave the area immediately.

Sorry. Comments have been closed.
