Woman claims sasquatch sighting

A woman from northern Saskatchewan says she saw the legendary sasquatch, and it left behind evidence described by an expert as "the find of the century."

Shaylane Beatty thought she saw a bear by the side of the road on her drive to Prince Albert on Saturday. But as she drove closer, the animal was walking on two legs.

"I’ve heard the stories before and I didn’t believe them. Then I saw the sasquatch," Beatty said.

Driving from Deschambault Lake to do some Christmas shopping on a bright afternoon, the 20-year-old noticed the creature walking along the forest’s edge near Torch Lake. It stopped by the side of the road and turned to look at Beatty as she drove by.

About 21/2 metres tall and muscular, with long, floppy arms attached to broad shoulders and covered in dark brown hair, the creature isn’t like anything Beatty’s seen before, she said.

The shock of seeing such an enormous beast caused a momentary lapse in concentration. Her car swerved and nearly hit the ditch.

"My heart was beating real fast. I was getting dizzy and was short of breath. I kept repeating, ‘I can’t believe I’m seeing this.’ So I pulled over and called my aunt," Beatty said.

Returning to the area the next day, Beatty and her two uncles found in deep snow hundreds of footprints measuring 50 centimetres in length, she said.

"My uncles were struggling to walk through the same snow the sasquatch just breezed through," Beatty said.

Even by jumping, the two men couldn’t match the creature’s stride, she added.

The tracks were followed until the evening, when darkness prevented further investigation.

"What Shaylane saw is definitely some sort of primate," said Tom Biscardi, who’s been hunting sasquatches for 33 years and runs, where photos of the footprints can be viewed.

The footprints are impressive evidence of the creature’s northern wanderings, he added, calling them "the find of the century."

"This particular Bigfoot has found solace in that area. There’s probably a cave somewhere that the creature sleeps in," Biscardi said.

Beatty’s uncles sent Biscardi, who said he’s encountered a sasquatch six times, a hair sample for analysis.

Jeff Meldrum, a professor of anatomy at Idaho State University and author of Sasquatch: Legend Meets Science, said three sasquatch sightings have been recorded in Saskatchewan.

"As long as there’s forest cover and an area is sparsely populated, there is space to harbour any number of creatures," Meldrum said.

After viewing pictures taken by Beatty’s uncles, Meldrum said the length of the footprints are in the range of others already found in North America, but the lack of detail leaves unanswered questions about their validity.

"Given the quality of the photographs, it’s impossible to render any meaningful analysis," he said.

But the combination of a personal sighting and physical evidence is intriguing, and if samples of scat or urine are found along the trail of footprints, that would be compelling evidence, Meldrum said.

Below are photos of the tracks from Biscardi’s website where he proclaimed them "the find of the century."

Although now, Biscardi has posted testimonial from a man who was running his trap line and claims that he was the "Sasquatch" witnessed by the woman and that someone else hoaxed the tracks…Hmmm…

If Tom Biscardi says “this is the find of the century” – I’m glad the century is only 6 years old.

    “Expert”, on what exactly?

    He must get excited easy.

The ‘testimonial from a man who was running his trap line and claims he was the “Sasquatch”‘ reminds me of a story that ran in the local paper The Liverpool Echo circa january 1965 concerning a group of Liverpool kids who claimed to’ve encountered a leprechaun.

Over the years it keeps cropping up because a variety of individuals periodically pop up to claim the children must’ve been mistaken because in fact ‘the Leprechaun’ was really them – meaning, we’re always told, the story’s finally been laid to rest.

It never seems to matter the kids were adamant their Leprechaun was one of ‘The Little People’, whereas the various Leprechaun claimants (Leprechaunees?) are variously described as being at the time taller than six foot, wider than six foot, wearing a salvation army uniform, a Father Christmas suit, a Beatles’ suit, a deep-sea diving helmet plus full suit, a Boris Karloff-style Frankenstein’s Monster paper mache head with matching neck bolts and raised boots,(a few of the last ones may be a tweaky bit exaggerated); or that in what’s probably the most recent case, the bloke hadn’t actually even been born yet, his explanation being that as the children’d grown up they’d rewritten their memories so much they only imagined the encounter occurred in 1965.

Actually, come to think of it, Craig, you look a bit on the tall and wide side, and you’ve got that rubber Sasquatch suit you use to keep things interesting for your missus – so just exactly where were you in 1965? And don’t say you hadn’t been born yet, that’s no excuse!

In regards to the footprints being labeled as “the find of the century?” “A Dime a dozen” would be more appropriate.

When I hear the name Biscardi I go into skeptic mode.

hey craig thanks for this new update article regarding these sightings. bill

  8. DWA responds:

Maybe the serious sas community ought to rent planes towing BEWARE BISCARDI banners anyplace where there has been or may be a sighting.

(Rent as many of them as you can.)

This sas-in-Sas stuff sounds interesting to me, and I heard about the activity before I heard about the Biscardi involvement. The sighting descriptions, the track photos and the description of the trackway seem, if superficially and so-far, to be of a piece with lots of evidence from other places.

Not letting Biscardi rain on my parade yet.

  9. Darkwing2006 responds:

What will be the most shameful thing of all, is if Biscardi actually catches Bigfoot first. I would rather see some individual researcher get the credit than Biscardi.

  10. tapper responds:

The find of the century? Hardly, but this wouldn’t be the first time a reporter pulled only what they felt would be the best sound bite for their story. It’s entirely possible this quote was taken out of context, so give the poor guy a break.

I don’t believe those tracks are hoaxed. In fact, they look pretty darn real compared to others photographed under the same conditions and the lack of detail makes me wonder why a hoaxer would go through the touble. It would be interesting to know if there was any ‘drag’ between the prints, which would surely give away a hoaxer. If the gait was substantial and the snow deep, it’s unlikely a human being could have made them, especially when being viewed by a passer-by.

  11. DWA responds:

I thought this was interesting: the eyewitness’s recounting of her uncles’ efforts to match the creature’s stride — a creature that “breezed” along the trackway. To create that huge a stride, for a human, wouldn’t be easy, period, and surely wouldn’t in a suit, I wouldn’t think. You sure wouldn’t get the impression of “breezing.”

Sightings that combine with pretty convincing looking trackways — like, hmmmmmm, Patterson/Gimlin — constitute to me something pretty durn hard to debunk. That’s a lot to get right — the look of the animal, the nonhuman gait and the trackway with so many features not characteristic of humans.

Debunkers aweigh! And good luck with this one.

And you know, the above makes me wonder why something else is never (that I’ve seen) tossed at the scofftics. (I’m not calling the Radford types “skeptics” anymore. They don’t act like skeptics, they act more like cynics.) If the Patty figure was a guy in a suit, you’re telling me this guy vanished, without trace, in a remote area, ahead of two men not only unencumbered by bulky suits but ON HORSEBACK?

    I’m thinking not, Bob Hieronymous.

  12. MinnMonkeyMan responds:

I lose interest in a Bf sighting, and or all Bf sightings, it seems after finding that TB is involved and it really shouldn’t be that way. I think that the Media circus TB is well known to gladly ham for is what he truly seeks. TB seems to make media blunders, and other claims that make the rest of the Crypto Community roll their eyes and smile with clenched teeth and hope for it to pass by quickly .

  13. sadisticgreen responds:

I think the real problem is that TB is so well known (and not in a particularly favourable way) that he has become the first name on any reporters itinerary in the wake of an alleged sasquatch sighting. Being a man not to miss any publicity opportunity, Mr Biscardi is only too happy to offer his “professional opinion” to the tabloids thus negating the need for the journalist to question other (slightly less circus ringmaster-esque) Cryptozoologists their opinions.

  14. arbigfoothunter responds:

I agree with the other comments: “Find Of The Century”? Nah. But again, interesting. None of us were there, so we don’t know exactly what this “creature” looked like, and it is so hard to judge footprints just by looking at photos. Especially snow prints. Does anyone think they were exaggerating when they said: hundreds of footprints? If there were that many, then the creature must have used this “route” more than once, and possibly Tom Biscardi is correct in stating that the creature must have found solace in this area and is staying in a cave or something. Unless some of the prints are of different length, indicating more than one creature. Let’s wait and see if we hear anymore about this encounter, or if it ends up like so, so many others: nothing more is said (example: the recent sighting(s) in Wisconsin by the two boys and the deer snatching from the truck). Like I said, none of us were there, so what exactly are the facts and the evidence? Maybe we will hear something about the hair sample.

  15. Mnynames responds:

The difference in the quotes from Meldrum and Biscardi is quite telling.
