Thank you for posting this Craig. As you know, the analysis of the evidence is ongoing….
If Orang Pendek is a third type of Orangutan, that could make it harder to shoot and grab a type specimen. It will make one think more and hesitate due to possibility one is firing on an already well known animal. But it eventually has to be done, or the caputre of a live specimen or the gathering of a large part of a body (Pelt, bones, etc). Science won’t take any less, even if we have an ultra clear and close photo and the like. Getting absolute DNA evidence, however, of an unknown ape species, would be a step in the right direction. It won’t replace a corpse, but it is considerable in and of itself.
Very interesting!
Thanks for posting this!
Now I know somebody else might consider it a weetad unusual that
1) It might be difficult to fire on a putative orang pendek, on the grounds that the animal might be an endangered orangutan; and
2) It would be perfectly OK to fire on a putative orang pendek if one were sure it was not an orangutan….despite no one having any idea how many o.p. are left…
