No Keel Memoriam ~ Yet

Posted by: Loren Coleman on July 11th, 2009

I have personally received this brief statement from John A. Keel’s youngest sister, Cheryl, on July 11, 2009, which I am sharing to answer questions many of you have had about any plans to celebrate his life:

I have made arrangements for the remains and I will not be holding a memoriam for John in New York City. The family will probably have a private memoriam at a later time. I suggest that you fellas go ahead and have any type of memoriam that you would like to have to remember your friend. Thank you for all your assistance and kind thoughts at this very difficult time.

See, “John A. Keel Has Died” for the July 6th obit.

Loren Coleman About Loren Coleman
Loren Coleman is one of the world’s leading cryptozoologists, some say “the” leading living cryptozoologist. Certainly, he is acknowledged as the current living American researcher and writer who has most popularized cryptozoology in the late 20th and early 21st centuries. Starting his fieldwork and investigations in 1960, after traveling and trekking extensively in pursuit of cryptozoological mysteries, Coleman began writing to share his experiences in 1969. An honorary member of Ivan T. Sanderson’s Society for the Investigation of the Unexplained in the 1970s, Coleman has been bestowed with similar honorary memberships of the North Idaho College Cryptozoology Club in 1983, and in subsequent years, that of the British Columbia Scientific Cryptozoology Club, CryptoSafari International, and other international organizations. He was also a Life Member and Benefactor of the International Society of Cryptozoology (now-defunct). Loren Coleman’s daily blog, as a member of the Cryptomundo Team, served as an ongoing avenue of communication for the ever-growing body of cryptozoo news from 2005 through 2013. He returned as an infrequent contributor beginning Halloween week of 2015. Coleman is the founder in 2003, and current director of the International Cryptozoology Museum in Portland, Maine.

  1. blackmonk responds:

Keel was unique. He will be missed. RIP.

  2. coelacanth1938 responds:

I know the best memorial for this man: We buy his books for ourselves and others, we pick up the pieces where he left off, and once in awhile we visit him at his resting place and talk to his spirit as is only good and proper.

  3. lamarkable responds:

His memorial is curiosity, a willingness to look under every stone, to have the courage of our own instincts, and to possess the freedom to express them.

  4. cryptidsrus responds:

The best memorial is to read the books and be willing to look “outside of the box.” Coelacanth1938 had it right.
Also, be willing to have a sense of humor about it like John did.
