Earlier this summer, I posted the two following blogs on the Sasquatch Hunter. Since the movie screened again on September 9, 2006, folks might be interested in reading highlights you might have missed.

Sasquatch Hunters

Fred Tepper, the director of Sasquatch Hunters (2005) writes in with news of his film’s screening.

(Keen observers of the film will note the use of a brown resin copy of Grover Krantz’s Gigantopithecus skull reconstruction.)

Tepper emails:

My Bigfoot movie, Sasquatch Hunters is making its television premiere today, Tuesday, July 11th at 8pm Eastern/Pacific (7pm Central) on the Sci-Fi Channel. (This is in the U.S. and maybe Canada — I think other countries have their own Sci-Fi Channel, so I don’t think it’ll be on there. But check your listings to be sure.)

If you haven’t seen the film I’ll tell you this: It’s very low budget (though we had a bigger budget than Patterson 🙂 ) and while it’s not a great film, we at least tried to treat Bigfoot with respect. For example, he’s not the crazed killer that you usually see in films like this, all is peaceful until the humans start causing trouble — Bigfoot is shown to be peaceful until disturbed.

The special effects are very hit or miss, and since I did them all, I’m to blame. Most are a guy in a suit, and some are all digital. If you go to this link and follow it to the Downloads page you’ll see a little "making of" video that you might find interesting — if for no other reason than to see what’s possible these days with one computer and a little free time. The potential that today’s technology has for hoaxers is extraordinary and quite tempting.

So watch the show! Tell your friends! Tell your enemies! Tell complete strangers! 🙂

PS: Loren, I saw your column [directly below] on Cryptomundo about the death of my lead actor last month. Thanks for putting that up. It’s a shame Matt didn’t live to see the Sci-Fi airing, since he was always hoping it would make it there.

Matt Lattimore

Entertainment Insiders announced that actor Matt Lattimore, 45, has died of undisclosed causes on June 4, 2006. He was born March 24, 1961, in Long Beach, California, and lived and worked in California most of his life.

The star of over 25 television commercials, Lattimore also acted in five motion pictures, including the lead role of Roger Gordon in Sasquatch Hunters (2005) and as a major in Hunter’s Moon (2006).

The original title for Sasquatch Hunters was Primeval. The plot involves the adventures of forest rangers and scientists who go on an archaeological dig for fossils in a Bigfoot burial ground.

The Internet Movie Database published the following as the "Memorable Quote" from Sasquatch Hunters (2005):

Dr. Helen Gilbert (Amy Shelton-White): Is it safe?

Roger Gordon (Matt Lattimore): Yeah, it’s not here now.

Dr. Helen Gilbert (Amy Shelton-White): How do you know?

Roger Gordon (Matt Lattimore): Because we’re still alive.

Lattimore’s film is not to be confused with the 1997 movie, Sasquatch Hunters. The 1997 motion picture is a mockumentary about several groups, including The Bigfoot Society, true believers; the American Hominid Association, government-funded Bigfoot trackers; and the Michigan Cryptozoological Institute, a closed ranks organization, all three of which converge at the "Bigfoot Bonanza" festival.

Lattimore is survived by his wife, a son and daugther, and grandchildren. Our deepest sympathy and wishes to his family and friends for this loss.

Matt Lattimore is shown below during the filming of Sasquatch Hunters (with rifle) and during one of his Discovery Channel commercials.

Hmmmm, Sasquatch Hunters or Texas vs. OSU? Lemme think, NOT!

    Texas could have used Sasquatch.

    Sign him up coach!

  2. Lee Pierce responds:

I watched the movie before watching “Sasquatch Mountain”. Slow. Matt Latimore did a credible job with a weak script.

  3. Esther responds:

I rented Saquatch Hunters and I enjoyed it. I am sorry to hear about the death of Mr. Lattimore, he was so young.

Sorry. Comments have been closed.
