The presence of strange winged-beings is as old as the human imagination. In 2011, reports of flying humanoids began to surface in the city of Chicago. There were only 3 brief sightings. Then unexpectedly in early 2017, a smattering of encounters emerged from different locations throughout the Chicago metro area; until the number reached near 50 sightings before the end of the summer. Why Chicago? Why now? Follow the investigation of the Mothman Dynasty.

It’s a shame because I was ALL IN on the Chicago Mothman, but the research this book is based on has all just been too iffy. There’s a police report that they talk about on the blog but then you learn it’s bogus (confirmed in the Chicago Tribune) and they don’t bother responding to it.
Then I saw a presentation by the Illinois MUFON director where he was investigating the IP addresses of the reports that came into MUFON and several were identical (so one computer was sending in claims of multiple sightings), there’s just too much basic fact-checking that wasn’t followed up on and too many “anonymous” reports. My Spidey Sense feels like this is a cash-in on the Point Pleasant Mothman 50th anniversary, and it just kinda makes me sad.
I’ve followed this story since almost its inception. What does THE MOTHMAN DYNASTY refer to? A serialized report here? A movie? Whose investigation and when?
This is the most annoying sort of teaser, because it may refer to nothing in particular or. . .
I have been following the “Mothman” story since soon after the collapse of the Silver Bridge in 1967. A major news story at the time. No mention of “Mothman” back then. John Keel, looking for UFO stories came upon the tales of Mothman perhaps by reading Gray Barker’s (of Men In Black fame), account in his book “The Silver Bridge” 1970 and injected his whole-cloth universe into the proceedings almost seven years after the actual events with his own book, “The Mothman Prophecies” 1975. I have a first edition copy with the classic feathered being drawing on the dust jacket. There is not a shred of hard evidence for “Mothman”. Only stories and “eyewitness” accounts, many of which are from teenagers probably covering for misbehaving inside an abandoned military reserve.
This is no evidence of any kind for Keel’s encounters with Indrid Cold or any other paranormal events he claims and describes. Keel, once a screen writer for such television shows as “The Monkees” and “Lost In Space” was adept at adding his version of “Ultraterrestrials” come to earth for who knows what purpose.
The Silver Bridge was found to have collapsed due to stress fatigue and corrosion in an official 1971 investigation. 46 people were killed in the collapse with two of the bodies having never been recovered. That “Mothman” has become a near Groundhogs Day type of event is quite disturbing and is the true mystery here.
