Bigfoot and Benz… Mercedes that is

Bigfoot Benz

This was originally posted here on Cryptomundo way back in 2005, but as there are many new readers since then, I thought that I would repost it.

On March 1st of 2005, I received a rather cryptic email with a video clip attached. Following is the text from the email:

Not sure what this is. This was discovered in the out-takes of 28,000 feet of film during one-lights for a Mercedes car shoot, doing what is called “running footage,” shooting the various models each year to be inserted into dealership ads. In filming the Mercedes ML 350 and ML 500 all-wheel drive snow footage on a logging road in Tahoe. This was first thought to be a crew member accidentally walking into the shot. Upon closer inspection and then questioning, all crew were at base camp and the road was miles and miles away from any public access.

Any thoughts?

Crew member, huh? That explains the dark clothing from head to toe and the weird behavior… πŸ™‚

This was sent by someone from an ad agency, probably the one that was involved with the ad campaign. I replied with some questions and never received any additional comment.

Actuallly…two figures cross at two different points. Both don’t exhibit any visual characteristics not shared by an average sized man wearing a dark snowmobile suit, plodding along in deep snow. The second one actually stoops to walk under a small branch and seems to get bogged down in the deep snowbank. Hardly, I would think, behavior typical of a burly forest dwelling giant. Nothing to see here, in my opinion.

  2. John Kirk responds:

If that’s a sasquatch then my name is Loren Coleman!!

  3. Frank Oliveri via Facebook responds:

Wow…thats amazing. I trully cant believe my eyes.
Who would have though Mercedes would have to stoop to viral marketing.

  4. David-Australia responds:

    “Viral marketing”…..

  5. AreWeThereYeti responds:

To paraphrase DWA: if it’s built like a person and moves like a person, it ain’t a sasquatch.

However, I have more to add. And, since I was only lurking back in ’95 I guess I’ll say, now, what I thought, then: if you examine the video closely, its clear the alleged “encounter” was filmed on TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS.

The first time, the camera car is positioned several yards ahead and to the left of the subject vehicle and the “pedestrian” enters the roadway quite a distance behind the Mercedes and remains in view the whole time.

In the second half of the video, the camera car almost immediately takes-up a position directly in front of the subject vehicle and the figure steps into the roadway right after both vehicles pass. Said individual then almost immediately disappears behind the subject vehicle for several seconds, reappearing only near the end of the clip.

I briefly wondered if the discrepancies might have been caused by either: multiple cameras on a single film-rig; or, that two separate camera-cars might have been in use during the encounter. Closer observation proves neither is the case.

In the first clip you’ll notice the right front tire of the subject vehicle stays well within the plowed portion of the road and the vehicle progresses in a fairly straight line. Whereas, in the second run-through the Mercedes drifts to the right, running into the unplowed snow eventually leading the driver to over-correct and swerve the vehicle to the left. Moreover, at approximately one-and-a-half times the width of the Mercedes being filmed, the road does not appear sufficiently wide to accommodate two film-cars at the same time.

One “chance encounter” might be intriguing, but two occurrences strains credibility to the breaking point! Clearly, the person in the frame had reason to be there – or, was attempting to get on-camera for unknown reasons. What it definitely IS NOT is Mercedes Benz filming an accidental close encounter with Bigfoot – or, should I say “Grosserfuss.” πŸ˜‰

I don’t understand why we continue to waste time on videos like this. :/

  7. dconstrukt responds:

    LOL

  8. Goodfoot responds:

I’d worry more about wasting THEIR time, if I were them. Which I’m not. It didn’t make me laugh, but it elicited a small smile.

  9. dconstrukt responds:

    @ sixstringphonic – EXACTLY.

    why post nonsense like this?
