Meldrum’s Sasquatch Field Guide
Posted by: Craig Woolheater on February 22nd, 2013
I have written a field guide to sasquatch. In it I have tried to provide some helpful guidelines and instructions to assist with the identification, documentation, collection, preservation and reporting of evidence from the field. It is my sincere hope to tap into the extensive resource of “amateur” sasquatch investigators and cultivate a corps of critical objective citizen scientists.
It will be a heavy laminated fold-out quide about the size of a road map. It is intending to carried with you out in the field.
It ships from the printer on March 4, 2013.Dr. Jeff Meldrum
About Craig Woolheater
Co-founder of Cryptomundo in 2005.
I have appeared in or contributed to the following TV programs, documentaries and films:
OLN's Mysterious Encounters: "Caddo Critter", Southern Fried Bigfoot, Travel Channel's Weird Travels: "Bigfoot", History Channel's MonsterQuest: "Swamp Stalker", The Wild Man of the Navidad, Destination America's Monsters and Mysteries in America: Texas Terror - Lake Worth Monster, Animal Planet's Finding Bigfoot: Return to Boggy Creek and Beast of the Bayou.
It’s really something how the blossoming of the internet has re-started bigfoot science, which just before had almost been buried.
Baby steps. Not the first time this has happened in the hard sciences.
Sweet–I will pick one up.
Yes, the internet has its downside, but it has served to bring everyone interested in cryptozoology together and to organize us into a group. I remember in my teens and early 20’s thinking there had to be more people like me out there because I kept buying books and watching things like In Search Of, but until the rise of the net, I had no clue how to find them, let alone how to get into contact with like minds.
And I like Meldrum’s approach: educate, inform and give the amateur some tools to help the field, but in cheat-sheet form.
Well said DWA.
I will pick one up just to support Meldrum. He has been one of the true champions of bringing a “true” scientific approach to the sasquatch mystery. Not sure how much luck I will have in North-Central Massachusetts, but I support the cause!
And just to help the cause further, two more field guides:
Field Guide to the Sasquatch
and
Raincoast Sasquatch
The latter is deliciously buried – no, not actually, it’s right at the end – of one of the finest books on the subject. Practical tips for the citizen researcher are in both.
I wish Meldrum would write a field guide for mainstream scientists on how to pull their heads out of their nether regions.
It was perhaps a year before the release of his scientific tour-de-force, “Sasquatch: legend meets science. That day, i decided to try and call my hands down hero in the field, Dr Jeff Meldrum, and leave him a brief message telling him how much I and my two sons enjoy his many contributions to cryptozoology. Imagine my surprise when he answered the phone and took the time answer many of my questions, including the snow walker footage and the redwoods video. His workload must have been enormous, yet he spoke to me for nearly an hour. Bravo, Professor! I eagerly await your new field guide; I will buy several, and give a few to some friends i have who stand transfixed as i speak of the big guy; truly, you are the Heuvelmans of our time. Thank you, Dr Meldrum.
Found this old youtube post while searching Erikson Project….can’t wait to see Matilda!! ;p

The documentary “Sasquatch: the Quest” is part of the Erickson Project and will unveil, for the first time, a host of never before seen sasquatch footage and other evidence chronicling the journey of the Erickson Project. The release of the documentary will coincide with the release of the DNA findings collaboratively with Dr. Melba Ketchum.
*They are very close to completion, but there is no exact time on when it will be done. Author is confident it will be worth the wait as the data is very complete.
Alamo: That’s evil. I can’t countenance that kind of behavior.
Publicly.
This isn’t…um, er, technically “public,” is it…?
Raiderpithicusblaci:
Watch out. Some scoffer will come on here and blast Meldrum for wasting his time actually talking to people about his lame quest, rather than locking himself up in his office; plowing the furrow of the known an inch deeper and an inch farther…and calling it “science.”
Meldrum may someday be seen as a Darwin in this field. I hope he gets to see that day.
I should have put this in one of my earlier posts:
When one of cryptozoology’s most important events of the past decade – maybe the past 50 years – takes place, i.e., on the day this guide becomes available for purchase…
…WE BETTER READ ABOUT IT HERE.
Thank you Dr. Meldrum, you’ve always been a credit to the field.
Dr. Kaco, please see Bill Munn’s latest Cryptomundo post, regarding Matilda. You can see her any time you wish, apparently … by heading to your nearest costume shop.
Just ordered mine on Amazon. $7.95 plus shipping.
Get this. You probably won’t find more information on the topic in many of the books you have, and certainly none in such a field-friendly, easy-to-carry format. Excellent illustrations.
This could insert seamlessly into any North American mammal field guide. When that is going on, anyone with a science degree or an interest in animals should be taking note.
