Sasquatch: Square or Sloping Shoulders?

Posted by: Ken Gerhard on April 7th, 2017

Just watched an interesting lecture by a paleo-osteologist who specializes in the evolution of shoulders in hominids. It would appear that broad, square shoulders are a fairly recent development in our lineage… and even early Homo erectus (1.8 mya) had sloping shoulders. So, if ‘Patty’ represents an archetypical Sasquatch, does that infer a close relationship to H. sapiens, Neanderthals, Denisovans or Heidelbergensis? Or merely a convergent, derived adaptation?

  1. Goodfoot responds:

Not sure what’s being implied here, but it’s NOT “infer”.

    imply > infer = speaker > hearer

  2. chetvaldes responds:

    Ken,
    could you lose that hat?

  3. NMRNG responds:

Chetvaldes, your comment about the hat is arguably petty.

    However, I agree 100%.

The mini-curled-up-cowboy hat makes a statement.  Its owner wears it not because he simply likes the look, but because he wants attention from people.  Unfortunately, that hat does not invite people to trust or respect its wearer, but instead it shrieks “wannabe” at all who see it who are not themselves personally inclined to wear such a hat.   The average person looking at an individual wearing that hat doesn’t think “That is a respectable scientist who appears to be highly objective,” but rather, they might think ” I could see that person wanting to be believed so badly about this unusual theory that he might do anything to further his cause.”  I believe I have already stated multiple times on this website the importance of  credibility of those involved with cryptozoology.
