In the months to follow bizarre activity erupted around the area. Most notably, in the form of a flying, red-eyed figure known as The Mothman.
But whatever became of Woodrow Derenbeger and his family after that fateful night? Learn more in this inaugural episode of Small Town Monsters: Casefiles.

This venue is a good place for stories about Indrid Cold who is/was a totally fictitious character, invented by John Keel to embellish his whole-cloth experiences during the “Mothman” hysteria event. I remember the news coverage of the Silver Bridge collapse that night in West Virginia and there wasn’t any mention of such beings. I happen to have a first edition copy of “The Mothman Prophesies” with the original Garuda based cryptid figure drawing on the dust jacket. Interesting, even creepy reading but 80% Keel’s imagination. There is no evidence of any kind for the Mothman entity, Indrid Cold or any connection to the bridge collapse which was found to have happened due to metal fatigue. How must the survivors and relatives of the people that perished that night feel about this tragedy being turned into an annual Groundhog’s Day type of event. Sad.
