The Loch Ness Monster is one of the world’s most enduring mysteries. But there have also been accounts of similar cryptids all over the planet. Sightings of these mysterious creatures have been documented for hundreds of years in various cultural folklores. Are these fantastic creatures leftover dinosaurs, mythical animals or something that traveled to Earth millions of years ago? Or might the sightings of these strange beasts be a glimpse into the past caused by a disturbance in the space-time continuum?

After a week long investigation on Lake Champlain with an array of equipment (underwater cameras, hydrophone and sonar) Champ Search (Katy Elizabeth & Dennis Jay Hall) scoured the deep dark waters of Lake Champlain in search of Champ.

20 years ago, dogs baking wildly woke Christine Hebert’s Marina on a foggy night. A new dock had recently been built at the Auer Family Boathouse, with a light that extended out into the water. Christine looked out to see what was alarming the dogs, thought someone might be taking a boat, and to her surprise she saw a large creature rise up out of the water right under the light.

Dolphins and whales are the only aquatic animals in the world that use Echolocation to communicate, navigate and find food. But in 2002 an unknown creature was recorded echolocating in Lake Champlain.The clicking heard wasn’t made by a boat, a fish-finder or an angler’s reel. It was unequivocally a freshwater mammal, due to this creature’s ability to echolocate it proves it has a highly advanced brain. To me is is extremely smart as it has eluded humans for hundreds of years.

There are far and few cryptozoologists and scientists who have ventured to the Lake to keep up on research. My group “Champ Search” (Wendell Soctomah, Scott Mardis & Myself) will be traveling back up to Lake Champlain this summer. We will be joining other researchers on an extensive investigation to find evidence of Champ.
