A Winged Weirdie Or What?

Witnesses: Person falls from sky, then vanishes

Several people in New Jersey claimed they saw a person falling from the sky with no parachute, but an extensive police search has turned up no evidence, NBC Philadelphia reported.

Witness Kelly Hale and two of her co-workers at Shore Veterinarians in Egg Harbor Township said they watched from their office windows as a human fell head-first from the sky on Tuesday.

But there were no reports of missing skydivers.

“I [saw] the guy falling, at an angle, like this,” Hale told NBC Philadelphia while gesturing. “Straight down. No parachute. No paraglider.”

Authorities were still investigating the incident, Egg Harbor police told msnbc.com on Thursday.

“We’re not actively out there searching, but we’re waiting for more information,” said police Sgt. Robert Gray. He could not comment on the ongoing investigation.

Several people contacted Egg Harbor Township Police at about 3:20 p.m. Tuesday, saying that they watched a person free-falling from the sky. The witnesses described the person as falling head first, at a slight angle, toward the ground, police said.

“You could see the arms and legs flailing and his clothes were blue, a dark blue like a navy, black and gray,” Hale said. “There’s no doubt that it was a person. We’re 100 percent sure.”

The witnesses also told NBC Philadelphia they saw a small plane flying nearby right after they saw the person plunging to the ground.

Egg Harbor Township police and aviation units of the Coast Guard and New Jersey State Police extensively searched the heavily wooded area until about 11 a.m. Wednesday. The search will remain suspended until further information becomes available, police said.

“We didn’t see any signs of debris, we didn’t see any broken branches of something like, falling through the tree-line,” Coast Guard Lt. Commander Paul Whitmore said. “We didn’t see anything out of the ordinary, but that’s not to say it didn’t happen.”

Hale, for one, is convinced of what she saw. “They need to find him,” she said. “I mean, there’s somebody lying back there.”MSNBC

An intriguing if disturbing report, with echoes from mythology, ufology and the 9/11 horrors. The ‘plane’ could be mere coincidence or perhaps an ex post facto rationalization (in the immediate aftermath of an enormous explosion at an oil depot here in England several years ago, some locals insisted that a plane had been heard in the area – reflecting the heightened anxieties over both oil and aerial terrorism – until the reality of a storage accident became established).

It would be interesting to see any follow-up to this tale – whether or not a tragic reality is found behind it.

Well this story certainly sounds interesting but there are some problems with it.

    1. Are the witness’s sure they saw a man? Could they have seen something else like that bird in the above video?

    2. If they saw a small plane nearby it could mean that someone committed suicide, foul play was involved, the government was testing something using dummies or maybe a suit that enables people to survive falling from certain heights.

    3. It could have been a prank of some sort. The person could have landed on something that would have cushioned their fall and enabled them to survive possibly.

    4. Veterinarians have staff that, for the most part are very trustworthy and reliable people but sometimes people do and will lie for publicity and these women could have possibly lied about it for media attention though I highly doubt it.

    5. It could be a ghostly event like a playback from the environment of some sort, a fallen angel or angel, or a being from another dimension but still highly unlikely.

    6. The person that fell, if the event is real, could be stuck in a tree or could have simply walked away maybe even dazed and confused with amnesia. But then again maybe not.

    7. It could be cryptozoology related. I’ll give it that much. Mothman sounds possible but still unlikely at this point.

    8. They simply have not looked in the right spot yet. I mean the police. They should get search dogs to sniff for dead bodies/blood/person that’s injured.

    9. I’m thinking a stunt of some sort that someone walked away from.

    10. Something that will remain unexplained at least for a period of time.

I wonder if NASA can help in the search or the Government?

Interesting take Blueguitar, as around the same time this happened in NJ ,in San Bruno California there was the big gas explosion. And some people are claiming that they saw and heard a plane crash. So close to 9/11.

    What would Carl Jung say?

  4. FunkyBunky responds:

Sounds like something straight out of the Sopranos! Although Tony usually pushed them over boats not out of planes.

    Jersy Devil?!

  6. Luke from MN responds:

Quite simple. A mob hit. Poor bloke probably went on a plane ride and got dumped off. I’ve read that area where the body supposedly was seen falling into is swampy too, so if the person landed in that, he probably punched right through it.

  7. TheForthcoming responds:

    Someone from another site said:
“Man was thrown from a plane and there was someone on the ground to collect the body to take elsewhere. I really have no idea. Strange.”

    I agree.

Could have been a drug lord making his drop with drugs bundled up in a jumpsuit, therefore finding no evidence of anything found after making a pickup.

    Possible magic trick?

  10. Dib responds:

This reminds me of another incident. Does anyone remember people in Florida finding the body of a young woman in a black dress, who had evidently fallen from a great height, though there were no buildings near by?

This was some years ago and I never heard or saw anything else about it.

A falling body that nobody saw land and a landed body that nobody saw fall.

    Weird.

  11. TheForthcoming responds:

Yeah FunkyBunky, it does sound like something out of The Sopranos.

    And interesting point Dib.

Nobody has mentioned the possibility of a jumper wearing a wingsuit. It would explain the angled, head-first flight, and due to the false horizon caused by the trees he/she could have been out of sight well before hitting the ground, still in time for a low-altitude parachute opening.

I’d have thought any (conscious) person falling would instinctively try to land on their feet, not their head. Especially a trained skydiver, who would know to land ‘feet and knees together’ no matter what. Even an untrained person would surely avoid landing on his head, assuming he was conscious.

My top 3 ideas, in order, are:

    1. Mistaken witnesses
    2. Wingsuit stunt
    3. Hoax (dropped dummy, collected by somebody at drop zone, etc, etc)

  13. Lyall M responds:

Hello, there is a radio control airplane kit with a name like Flying Super Hero that is shaped like a human body about 5 to 6 feet long with limbs that flutter with the dynamics of flight. You can see it here:

At the distance they’re talking about it would look like a person – and I would be curious to know if they thought the person hit the trees or was it actually trees?

I guess it is actually called RCSuperHero.

Sorry. Comments have been closed.
