Bigfoot enthusiasts converge in Yakima this weekend
This might be your best chance to catch a glimpse of Bigfoot.
Not in the flesh, of course. But photographs, footprints and other possible evidence collected by Bigfoot investigators and enthusiasts will be on display this weekend when the Yakima Valley Museum hosts the Yakima Bigfoot Round-Up.
The event, planned in conjunction with the museum’s special exhibit, Sasquatch Revealed, includes lectures and a banquet to honor Bigfoot research pioneers, including Yakima’s own Bob Gimlin and the late Roger Patterson.
In 1967, Patterson and Gimlin filmed what they claimed was a real encounter with a Bigfoot along a creek in Northern California. The controversial footage, which skeptics believe to be a stunt by a man in an ape costume, has been debated and scrutinized ever since.
On Saturday, the “Sasquatch meets Science” presentations will feature two scientists and a special effects artist who has analyzed the 1967 footage. Tickets for the Saturday talks and banquet, along with social events Friday evening, cost $70.
For the low-budget Bigfoot curious, on Sunday the museum will host talks geared to the general public, headlined by the host of Animal Planet’s show “Finding Bigfoot” and including live, Bigfoot-theme folk music. Tickets for this event, which runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., cost $15.
The museum is at 2105 Tieton Drive.
Its special exhibition on Sasquatch will be on display until the end of the year.
