Finding Bigfoot: Meet the Crew: Ranae Holland
Posted by: Craig Woolheater on March 16th, 2013
Research Biologist Ranae Holland was born and raised in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. There, she was first introduced to the Bigfoot craze in the 1970’s by her father. They forged a special connection while watching movies and televisions shows, and reading about Bigfoot. In 2011, Ranae became a co-host of the Animal Planet show Finding Bigfoot.
Though Ranae is not a member of the Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization (BFRO) and does not believe in Bigfoot, she is fascinated by the phenomenon, and is excited to have found a way to combine her scientific knowledge, fieldwork skills, and love of the wilderness to investigate alleged sightings.
She received her Bachelor of Science degree from the School of Aquatic and Fishery Sciences at the University of Washington, where she was selected for and worked with the distinguished Alaska Salmon Program. For over a decade, Ranae has conducted fisheries research throughout the Pacific Northwest and Alaska.
Ranae continues with her efforts as a dedicated field biologist, and she regularly works for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), as well as private entities. Her most recent field research efforts are focused on steelhead behavior in the Umpqua River basin in South Central Oregon.
In keeping with her enjoyment of the outdoors, Ranae spends her free time Spey and fly fishing, hiking, camping and kayaking. She also enjoys teaching and lecturing to students about critical thinking, science, conservation, and, of course, her search for Bigfoot.

Hey Ranae, please do us all a favor and do some field research on black bears. Please, please, please. You are a embarrassment to what could be a credible show. BLACK BEARS CANNOT RUN AT HIGH OR EVEN LOW SPEEDS WHEN ON TWO LEG’S. LET ALONE JUMP. You call your self a field researcher, well research bears. Even my 6 year old grandson knows more about bears than you. Animal Planet would draw in a bigger crowd if they replaced you with a lagitatmate skeptic.
If you think Ranae is the one who should be replaced we must be watching two different shows.
I’m sure there’s no way someone who persistently demonstrates their room temperature IQ via grammatical armageddon misinterpreted anything a trained field biologist said. Seriously, if you actually think she doesn’t know that bears can’t run and jump on two legs, then you have no critical thinking skills.
Well maybe you should listen to her skepticism of the suspected Bigfoot caught on film by accident which aired last week where the subject RAN OUT OF THE WOODS STOPPED TURNED AROUND AND RAN AND LEAPED INTO THE WOODS. I guess I misinterpereted that and every other film in which a suspected Bigfoot is caught on film moving very quickly (faster than a bear could on two leg’s) or any witness that usually describes these creatures as moving very quickly or covering a long distance in two or three steps (that would take a normal human being five or six steps or a bear eight to ten steps) as a bear. 90% of the time she exclaims “I can’t rule out a bear” She can’t rule out anything because she didn’t witness anything. Could you give me a ruling on a penalty called in a football game you didn’t witness even if I described it to you. A legitimate skeptic would be open minded, she isn’t. Oh by the way, Bobo is about as legitimate as Ranae, but at least he is entertaining and has actually seen one. The only fairly level headed ones on the show are Cliff and Matt. Tarzanboyy just to let you know I am a Firefighter Paramedic for a big city for over 19 years and critical thinking comes into play everyday I am at work. Wether it’s running into a burning house, delivering a baby pulling some sorry drunk out of a mangled car wreck or trying to breath life back into a 5 year old boy who just got the life beat out of him by his drug addicted father. Yah I would say I have pretty good critical thinking skill’s and I have the commendations to prove it.
