The Flatwoods Monster: a Legacy of Fear

In 1952 five children were playing football in a small town called Flatwoods, WV when a strange object appeared above them. Streaking across the sky, they watched it crest a nearby hill, slow and then descend just over the top of the ridge. What followed after their sighting has become one of the most infamous local legends ever recorded. That night, seven area residents encountered a hovering, mechanical monstrosity that was described by area newspapers as “glowing” “Frankenstein-like” and breathing fire.

The Mothman of Point Pleasant Film Premieres at Mothman Festival Event

This weekend The Mothman Festival once again descends upon downtown Point Pleasant. While the town is no stranger to large crowds of paranormal enthusiasts and fun-seekers alike, this year’s event might push the attendance to record heights. Bolstered by guests from televisions “Mountain Monsters” and a number of high profile authors and personalities the festival is looking for attendees to come by the thousands.

Though the annual festival doesn’t kick off officially until Saturday morning, this year there will be a Friday night “Kick start” to the shindig that includes the first public, big screen showing of the hit independent documentary, The Mothman of Point Pleasant.
