Though the cases are often entangled with urban legend, reported sightings of bipedal, goat-like creatures do enter the realms of cryptozoology. Dubbed “goatmen,” the beasts are described as either hairy humanoids with a goat-like head or horned men with fur and hooves, often bent on frightening those who encounter them. With an abundance of shocking tales involving these modern satyrs, author and paranormal researcher, J. Nathan Couch, sets out to explore the phenomenon in his new book, Goatman: Flesh or Folklore. Within the pages, Couch recounts famous cases – including that of the Pope Lick Monster, Maryland Goatman, and the Lake Worth Monster – along with a hoard of other hoof-walking horrors as he attempts to separate fact from folklore.

In the murky bayou of Louisiana’s Honey Island Swamp, Elliot Guidry and the Bayou Enforcement Agency on Supernatural Threats (BEAST), have their hands full with the notorious 400-pound Honey Island Swamp Monster. First sighted in 1963, this monster is six-to- eight-feet tall, has three toes, and is possibly amphibious. In Louisianan folklore, this is their Bigfoot. After several eye-witness accounts, BEAST sets out in search of the creature’s lair, weapons are drawn and the chase is on as all hell breaks loose in this epic battle of man versus monster.

In the mystical lagoons, marshes and swamps of Louisiana’s bayou, Elliot Guidry and his team of BEAST (the Bayou Enforcement Agency on Supernatural Threats) battle the elements while tracking down a pack of the infamous Grunch. Born of the Devil himself, the Grunch have been terrorizing Louisiana residents for centuries. These skin and bones, dog-like creatures have ridged backs, stand three feet tall and emit a horrible screech. After following these monsters into the middle of the swamp, BEAST realizes that the hunter has become the hunted as they’re surrounded by a hungry pack of Grunch.
