Beware Of Falling Moose

Posted by: Loren Coleman on February 13th, 2008

Photo courtesy Alaska State Troopers Okay, I’ve heard of falling frogs and fishes, of course, but a falling moose? This story comes to me thanks to the watchful eyes of Richard Hendricks, who has been looking up as well as around! I expect jokes to begin appearing about this incident in all kinds of places. […]

Arthurian White Stag Reported

Posted by: Loren Coleman on February 13th, 2008

Almost mystical in nature, white animals garner human attention, as this new story demonstrates. There is nothing truly cryptozoological about albino or nearly albino animals, any more than there is about melanistic ones. Neither are hidden, certainly, as their very appearance and finding them makes the news. Actually, their appeal has everything to do with […]

Never Mind: Komodo Dragon Hunt Called Off

Posted by: Loren Coleman on February 12th, 2008

Hoax? Failed hunt? Mistaken identity? An update from PNG appears to have a different point of view that the last report published. Papua New Guinean authorities have called off a four-day “Komodo hunt”, believing reports of an escaped Komodo Dragon could be a hoax. The lizard was reported on the loose in PNG’s second largest […]

Posted by: Loren Coleman on February 12th, 2008

Old movie posters of Bigfoot movies are rare but do exist. But how often do you see one in this language? I’ve mentioned this film before. In the USA, it was released as Bigfoot (1970), directed by Robert E. Slatzer. Nevertheless, this poster is new to me.

Red-Faced Laughing Cryptid Monkeys

Posted by: Loren Coleman on February 12th, 2008

Are the reports of a strange new monkey related to Macaca fascicularis, pictured above? Or are they more clearly aligned with Japanese macaques? Are they a new species, as yet undiscovered? Or have exotic pet traders released some rare snow monkeys from Japan in the Philippines? A group of red-faced monkeys that can mimic human […]

Mini-Fossils: Flying Reptile & Island Dino

Posted by: Loren Coleman on February 12th, 2008

Perhaps they all owned iPods Nanos? Small cute fossil finds pointing to pygmy versions of extinct forms appear to be in the news lately. Being tiny goes back a long way. A new fossil species of flying reptile with a wingspan of less than a foot across (30cm) has been discovered in China. The nearly […]

Why Mokele-Mbembe Is Not A Rhino

Posted by: Loren Coleman on February 12th, 2008

The Emela-ntouka has been an unknown animal of some confusion in Africa. A few chroniclers have felt it was merely another named cryptid representing the sightings of the Mokele-mbembe. But as revealed by an image seen here exclusively at Cryptomundo in the past, it appears to be a beast unlike the saurapod-like Mokele-mbembe. Click on […]

Robert Rines: “Are They All Liars?”

Posted by: Loren Coleman on February 11th, 2008

It reads like an obituary. And after a fashion, it is a pre-obit, a reflection on how it must feel as the end is in sight. The Boston Globe looks at the final and waning days of the Loch Ness Monster hunter Robert Rines. The article carried in today’s New England newspaper is detailed, joyous, […]

There is news of a considered and thoughtful educational effort to do “black squirrel” research. Due to a growing population on Long Island, New York, a new “Black Squirrel Headquarters” has sprung up in the Lake Grove neighborhood. Noting the black squirrels have also “colonized suburban Washington D.C.; Reedsburg, Wis., and Princeton, N.J.,” Bill Roe’s […]

Messin’ With Sasquatch Sells Some Jerky

Posted by: Craig Woolheater on February 11th, 2008

Glen Stubbe, Star Tribune The Sasquatch ads, created by Minneapolis advertising agency Carmichael Lynch, have attracted an almost cult-like following. “There is a big viral component on YouTube,” said Carmichael CEO John Colasanti, photographed here with Bigfoot. “There’s been 4 million hits on YouTube.
