Goatman: Flesh or Folklore Book

Posted by: Lyle Blackburn on December 12th, 2014

Though the cases are often entangled with urban legend, reported sightings of bipedal, goat-like creatures do enter the realms of cryptozoology. Dubbed “goatmen,” the beasts are described as either hairy humanoids with a goat-like head or horned men with fur and hooves, often bent on frightening those who encounter them. With an abundance of shocking tales involving these modern satyrs, author and paranormal researcher, J. Nathan Couch, sets out to explore the phenomenon in his new book, Goatman: Flesh or Folklore. Within the pages, Couch recounts famous cases – including that of the Pope Lick Monster, Maryland Goatman, and the Lake Worth Monster – along with a hoard of other hoof-walking horrors as he attempts to separate fact from folklore.

Todd Standing Has Sasquatch DNA Evidence?

Posted by: Craig Woolheater on December 12th, 2014

A Calgary man who has spent a decade tracing the movements of an elusive ape-like beast — widely considered a myth — believes he has DNA evidence suggesting bigfoot is alive and romping through Canadian forests.

Todd Standing said a strand of hair he plucked from a tree in southeastern British Columbia has unusual DNA sequences that must be linked to the legendary sasquatch.

The hair sample was tested by a lab in Thunder Bay, Ont., which concluded it was human, but Standing rejects the conclusion and interprets the results differently. He believes his long-standing hunt to prove bigfoot’s existence is gaining tremendous momentum.

In spring 1987, amid the far northeastern Kamchatka peninsula region of what was then the Soviet Union but is now Russia, hunter Rodion Sivolobov obtained the skin of a giant white bear. The Tasmanian Tiger: Extinct or Extant?

Posted by: Craig Woolheater on December 10th, 2014

The last Thylacine in captivity died on September 7, 1936, ironically just two weeks shy of the species receiving protection status. In 1986, 50 years later, it would be declared extinct. By international standards it no longer exists, and is just another marsupial ghost haunting the Australian landscape following European settlement.

While Benjamin is often symbolically referred to as ‘The Last Thylacine’, in all likelihood the species persisted in the Tasmanian wilderness well into the 1930s, possibly until the 1950s. In 1980 then-Tasmanian Parks and Wildlife officer Steven Smith conducted a detailed study of sightings between 1934 and 1980, concluding of the 320 sightings, just under half could be considered good, if inconclusive.

Judging by the thousands of sightings logged by government departments and private research groups since that time, however, it may still roam remote parts of Tasmania.

Encounters with the Sasquatch

Posted by: Craig Woolheater on December 10th, 2014

Large, hairy, bipedal anthropoid beings were described in the ancient legends of the indigenous people of British Columbia long before “Bigfoot” became a phenomenon in popular culture. The Bukwus (male sasquatch in Kwakwaka’wakw) and D’sonoqua (female version) appear in carvings and dance as well as folklore. Native Watchman Tom Sewid talks about his personal encounter with the Bukwus, “The Wild Man of the Woods” , in 1994 while on a fishing boat anchored off of Village Island in the Broughton Archipelago.
