More Meldrum on Killer Russian Yeti

Posted on Facebook by Dr. Jeff Meldrum regarding Discovery’s Russian Yeti: The Killer Lives program:

To head of(f) some of the queries still rolling in about my appearance on the Russian Yeti show (Discovery), let me reiterate — I do not endorse the yeti explanation for the demise of the trekkers in the Urals, regardless of any impression conveyed by the editing of the documentary. I have not seen the program myself, but based on the comments conveyed to me, it is safe to conclude that my interview was largely misused and misrepresented. That is disappointingly unprofessional behavior by the producers of this documentary. It is one of the potential pitfalls of participating in this form of media. However, as I have said previously, such disappointments are the exception rather than the rule in my experience. I have been afforded many many productive experiences and opportunities through my involvement in most of these productions.

He hasn’t seen it yet? That’s kinda strange.

  2. CelticBull responds:

That’s exactly what I was thinking… sure, there are those who really don’t care about TV, or their appearances (,or the money) but Meldrum never came across as one of them.

People from the bigfoot community (basically his main field) have been criticising him for his appearance and yet he didn’t have the time to even check on the program, yet?

It’s hard to say…I guess if I was in such a position, I would want to know what the interview would be used for, but who knows how much info he actually got? I don’t know, if say a “documentary” is in production (and I say that in the loosest sense of the word because that Dyatlov “documentary” was a piece of crap), they may not give full disclosure on what they’re using and how.

On the other hand, with TV the way it is, and especially reality TV, I think you need to know what you’re signing on for. Especially with the Discovery Channel these days–they’ve done so much bad reality television–the Dyatlov Russian Yeti nonsense being case in point. They suppressed details to support their “theory” and I don’t entirely believe that picture was legit…or at least used legitimately.

Personally, I wouldn’t associate my name with anything Discovery was putting together…let alone watch it. 🙂

This image that is constantly used about the Russian yeti killer has bothered me ever since I have read the stories here, and now it has hit me why. To me it looks like the Phantom moved on to Mother Russia, When I was ten my father took me to watch The Town that Dreaded Sundown and its based on a true story. And now I know why he was never caught. Mother Russia forgive us. Maybe.

    =)

It would be interesting to read more comments by Dr. Meldrum about Yeti news from Russia.

Not long ago, when invited by his Moscow colleagues to take part in a “International Conference” in Kemerovo region, Siberia, Dr. Meldrum came to the conclusion that the conference was organized to promote tourism in this region… The conference was organized mainly by Igor Burtsev and Dmitry Bayanov.

    See:

Unfortunately, there are some other doubts in the real “scientific purposes” of our Moscow colleagues too.

Sorry. Comments have been closed.
