For centuries, the Native Americans around Puget Sound have encountered what can only be described as a living dinosaur. As the legend goes, the first tribes to encounter the creature lived in fear of it, even tried to hunt it down, but as the decades past, the mysterious monster became regarded as ‘sacred’. There are even stories of the monster coming to the aide of the Indians to drive away packs of wild wolves.

As we came closer to the animal, it became apparent quickly that what we were looking at was not a bear. There was a very large, hairy, mass walking away from us on two legs. I can still remember the arms swaying as it strolled naturally down the side of the road away from us.

I have heard tales of hunters firing upon un-identified animals thinking they may be bagging the big guy, later only to discover it was nothing more than a moss covered stump beside a creek; imagine if that was your son or daughter sitting there in tree camo. I know of individuals who have spent literally thousands of dollars tracking and attempting to catch this elusive creature, should its right to survive in its own environment not be protected?

“To me, the sound of hearing this thing was scarier than seeing it. It (the sounds) started with a low rumble and ended in a high-pitch scream.”

Director John “Bud” Cardos and his producers, Henry Fownes, Igo Kantor, Jeffrey M. Sneller made a very important observation, people aren’t really afraid a 30-foot tall spider, they are scared of ‘real’ spiders. If a person is ‘freaked-out’ by one spider, then they should be crawling out of there skin if they were confronted with a literal army of them.

…… Global Warming is the catalyst for unleashing giant monsters on Japan. The melting of the southern polar ice causes a disruption in Earth’s ecosystem that causes the migration of the monsters to the island nation.
The largest of the sea monsters is a beast called “Raiga”, which unleashes it’s “Inconvenient Truth” on Tokyo just like Godzilla, Gamera, Mothra and Rodan have numerous times.

Anyone who takes the study of unknown animals seriously needs to come to grips with one fact, Bigfoot is a pop-culture diva.
It’s true.
Bigfoot, and all of his kin, have transcended beyond the quest to discover an unknown species of primate to become true American entertainment icons. Just look at all the Bigfoot related movies that have gone into production over the last year. Every independent film maker worth his, or her, salt these days is making a film about the monster.

“I’m happy to say that in the few weeks since I sent that email out, her condition has improved dramatically. I spent time with her at the hospital on Sunday. Her jaw is wired shut, so she communicates by writing. But we sat around and talked and joked like normal. She denied it, but I’m pretty sure I even caught a couple smiles.”

The film begins with New Mexico State Police Sergeant Ben Peterson (James Whitmore) discovers a little girl wandering the desert near Alamogordo, New Mexico, mute and in a state of shock. More mysterious deaths and disappearances occur in the area. When a store owner named Gramps Johnson is found dead, his store literally torn apart, his empty rifle bent and twisted beside the body, the cops theorize that there is a maniac killer on the loose. But, as Peterson’s boss points out (after Peterson’s patrol partner Ed Blackburn, played by Chris Drake, disappears without a trace), Gramps’ 30-30 was emptied and “Ed Blackburn was a crack shot. He could hit anything he could see. So unless your killer is armored like a battleship, there’s no maniac in this case.” It’s up to the coroner to deliver the verdict that “Gramps Johnson could have died in any one of five ways: his neck and back were broken, his skull was fractured, his chest was crushed, and here’s one for Sherlock Holmes. There was enough formic acid in his body to kill twenty men.”

Some small independent films never get the kind of grand premieres that big-budget Hollywood films do. Instead of star-studded events at the Pantages, Cinerama Dome, Egyptian or Grauman’s Chinese Theatre, these smaller films normally get their first viewing at a local movie house or drive-in.
When you are a high school film maker then, sometimes, your school auditorium will have to do.
No there won’t be any stretch limos, or A-list celebrities at the premiere of Gretchen Kessler’s, “The Legend of the Loveland Frogmen”, but if the young film maker continues on this path, they may be showing up for one or more of her films screenings in the future.
