The 112th Anniversary of the Bewildering Week in 1903 celebrated this Saturday, September 26th.
It was a classic rural community that had been carved out of rolling hills covered in thick woods, wheat fields and a winding river when someone first saw something that didn’t belong. The sightings swiftly spiraled from unusual lights acting in unexplained ways, to that of immense 8′ tall creatures with massive bat-like wings. As the nightly encounters of The Van Meter Visitor continued, the creature grew bolder, drawing closer to witnesses revealing more details to the mystery as described with a large single horn jutting out from atop its head, able to emanate blinding light and a strange smell that disoriented witnesses. All the more terrifying…the monster seemed to remain impervious to bullets.

“Alaska residents routinely deal with threats like bears and blizzards, but there’s something far more terrifying that’s leaving tough Alaskans frozen in fear,” said Marc Etkind, general manager of Destination America. “In ALASKA MONSTERS and ALASKA HAUNTING, Destination America is in the heart of the ice and isolation, exposing American myths and monsters that stalk our last frontier.”

On 8 August 2015, the city of Lepel in Belarus’s Vitebsk Province hosted an international festival of mythology entitled ‘On a Visit to Lepel Tsmok’ . Among the varied array of subjects featured in this festival’s talks and presentations was Lepel’s very own legendary monster, one that was once virtually unknown to the outside world. Thanks to a wonderful statue here, however, all that is now changing, rapidly.

I’m delighted to announce that my latest book, A Manifestation of Monsters: Examining the (Un)Usual Subjects, is now in print, published by Anomalist Books. It contains a superb foreword by my good friend and fellow cryptozoologist Ken Gerhard, and its front cover is sumptuously illustrated with a truly spectacular cryptozoological painting by hugely-talented artist Michael J. Smith that directly inspired me to write this book.
