Giant pandas are one of the “classic animals of discovery” in cryptozoology. Taotao, at 36, China’s oldest captive panda and the enduring favorite of millions of visitors to Shandong Province’s Jinan Zoo, died Wednesday, May 22, 2008, following a battle against old age and illness, China News Service reported. Only a few weeks ago, it […]

As you may know, since 2006, Ray Crowe, nearing 71 years old, has been dealing with the closing of the doors to his International Bigfoot Society. Ray, who began the organization, first as the Western Bigfoot Society, back in 1991, in Portland, Oregon, has been gathering Sasquatch items, art, artifacts, and related popular culture materials […]

Reports of dragon sightings in Canada are to be taken seriously. A traveling exhibition from two primarily French locations will soon be visiting the Royal Alberta Museum. Due to the fact this will be its first installation in an English-speaking site, there may be more attention to it throughout North America rather immediately. As part […]

A mascot inhabiting the Baseball Cryptozoo, with an identity from cryptozoology and hominology, gets a new name. The Northwest Arkansas Naturals announced earlier this month that the name of their furry, baseball-loving Sasquatch will hereby be known as “Strike.” Several hundred entries were submitted in the team’s “Name the Mascot” contest in January 2008. After […]

If you haven’t seen 10,000 BC, I highly recommend you give it a second chance for your weekend viewing before it leaves the big screen. I find it discouraging that one of the major movie criticisms being heaped on 10,000 BC is that there was not enough blood and gore, that the slicing and dicing […]

It seems most appropriate that as I find myself trying to unravel the tales and sightings of a decidedly unique series of sightings of a seemingly “American dinosaur species,” a living one at that, my thoughts would turn to the late dino hunter, Scott Thomas Norman. Scott would have been 44 years old today, March […]

French cryptozoologist Michel Raynal writes: “You may remember that in the Ameranthropoid saga, there is a frequent mention of gorilla-like statues found in Yucatan. Montandon alluded to these statues in 1929, and published an article with photographs in 1931.” Raynal shares these with Cryptomundo: Link to document. Gorilla-like statues in Yucatan

When I was speaking in Belfast, and mentioned the opening tomorrow of 10,000 BC, the crowd actually burst out in yelps, smiles, and excited talking. There is great anticipation out there for this one. One day until the film. Remember, you can win prizes from Cryptomundo in conjunction with the new film opening on March […]

Not just another night in Belfast: Above, the Wild Safari company’s Megatherium, the Giant Ground Sloth, is the 4.5 inch replica that David Oren used to ask the people of the Amazon about what they were seeing in the jungle. Mr. Orrin Harding, at my talk, showed a special interest in the model, and the […]

Henry Stokes is to be congratulated for taking his passion for Yeti, and turning it into an important and significant online archive of Yeti in popular culture. His site, “I Love the Yeti” definitely deserves your visits, now and then. Of course, being a devotee of the Abominable Snowmen, Snowwomen, and Snowpeople, in general, myself, […]

Today, I received directly from Japan, for the museum, the above shown replica of the Iriomote wildcat (Prionailurus iriomotensis), a classic animal of discovery for cryptozoology. It may be only a minor figurine at 2.5 inches long to some, but I find it significant that such care has been bestowed onto this important replica. A […]

I have mentioned Przewalski’s horse before, regarding their presence in zoos (as above) and concerning their replica appearance (as below). The Przewalski’s horse, a Pleistocene megafauna survivor, extinct in the wild, can be called a “living fossil,” in the popularized employment of that phrase. Certainly, this horse is of interest to cryptozoologists, as mentioned earlier. […]

Komodo dragons on display at the American Museum of Natural History, New York City. During the last week, a released, escaped, or very out-of-place giant Komodo dragon has terrorized Papua New Guinea’s second largest city and caused a massive search by law enforcement officers and local officials around Lae city on the north-west coast. The […]

On December 1, 2007, before my “Introduction to Cryptozoology” talk, I toured the American Museum of Natural History’s exhibition on Mythic Creatures. In their moderately-sized exhibition hall, I felt one of the highlights was the corner they set aside for unknown hairy hominoids. The Gigantopithecus model was a wonder. It appeared as above, large and […]
