While it was interesting to watch once…I’m not sure I’m going to follow it. There was too much drama, too much Animal Planet driven drama, and not enough on what really counted.

I was going through old shows I’ve collected over the years and I was reminded that this wasn’t the first time Animal Planet has thrown some sensationalistic nonsense at its viewers. Anyone remember the short lived show, Animal X, with the older guy narrating…now do you remember “My darlings?” ‘There are stranger things on heaven and earth, and you’ve just seen one of them…”

Yeah. That show was probably the pinnacle of hokey–they did have some good information on my favorite cryptids from time to time, but some of the outlandish theories (like for chupacabras), and some of the hokem of the show made me roll my eyes more than once an episode. That one, I had to sift out the accounts and usable information against the backdrop of the just plain goofy.

So, in retrospect, maybe Animal Planet hasn’t gone any further off the mark with Finding Bigfoot…we just can’t expect that they’ll really provide a documentary style format…they’re all about the drama and the ratings.

Unless we get the holy grail like they did with the giant squid…then MAYBE Animal Planet would do a show worthy of our criticism…if they could get the bid on it that is…
